My gut instinct is we should make the primary emphasis to be fan friendly and think outside the proverbial box.

Venue top priority should be a place with walking distance access to bars and restaurants. Think smaller on venue size. Maybe charge schools $10 per season ticket sold and include the conference tournament in season ticket packages and give out say 100 student tickets to the tournament to each school.
Actually it was the Southern that started post season conference tournaments to determine conference champions.
