They say they have a huge endowment. Unverified. Even so you dont use your endowment for athletics.

That's a good point. Harvard has a big endowment. Huge. Rice has a big endowment. You don't use that to pay for athletics. There has to be a better term for the billion dollar fund Liberty has because it's not an "endowment" as we understand it.

I think by saying "endowment" they're saying that it is principal to be invested so that the earnings can be used in the future. Their nonprofit status doesn't allow them to horde cash but they can have an unrestricted "endowment". Either way they've got a lot of money that they can use as they see fit for the most part.
