Same applies here. If your school makes itself better in hopes of expansion, then worst case you just have a better school.

Well that depends on how you made yourself better. Did you grow yourself in a healthy way through increased donations and sponsorship's or did you try to grow as quickly as possibly using student fees and other long term unsustainable sources with the hope that future P5 TV money would bail you out? If it's the former then yeah worst case scenario is you just have bettered your program for the long term. If it's the latter then you might be screwed financially.

The UC Nippert Stadium improvements were underway even before Cincinnati was awarded the minor league soccer franchise. And that rich Cincinnati family donated millions to UC's Varsity Village, UC''s College of Business and just donated $11 million toward a new home for the UC College of Business.
