The stadium was a New Deal (WPA) public works project built in 1936...
There was talk of us playing in one of those as well before we ultimately decided to build on campus.

Memorial Stadium in Charlotte was a New Deal project and is ironically located on the original campus of UNC Charlotte (back before it was a 4 year institution, or called UNC Charlotte). A community college is there today. Memorial Stadiums hosts a lot of HS football matchups, professional lacrosse, and soon USL Soccer, with hopes of eventually modernizing the stadium to accommodate MLS.
