Instant credibility? With who? Nobody in Texas (I use that as an example) knows that NDSU won the FCS national championship.

Hell, no one in Texas knew Texas State made the semi-finals in 2005.

I don't say that to take away from their accomplishments. It's impressive. But casual fans have no clue about that. And when folks say "they won the FCS national championship" you are going to get quite a few "oh that's great. but it's not DI football".

You're kidding yourself if you think NDSU's FCS record gives them any credibility. Them winning often in FCS doesn't mean they are the most ready for FBS either. It's more about facilities, budget, and fanbase. They might have the fanbase, but their facilities are lacking. Budget? No clue.
