.22 is good but if I shoot someone with intent to kill I want the impact of the round to knock him down as well.

What cal is the Glock?

I have an Springfield XD 45 ACP load with 14 rounds 185 grain +P Remington Gold Sabre jacketed hole points. I have a Mossberg 930 Pump hat 8 rounds of double aught buck. Break into my house and yiou are guaranteed a very bad day.

It's a .40 Love the XD fires really smooth. I was thinking about getting a Berretta PX4 Storm for conceal.

The Glock .40's are great guns for the price and ease of maintenance.

Agreed, it's the first gun I ever bought because of that. Got it when I still lived in Orlando and people were/are doing home invasions on students. Now I live in Ca and have some little ones so I was thinking of getting the PX4 bc of the safety but also bc it's smoother than firing the Glock.

Absolutely, once you have some experience and some extra cash, upgrading can be useful and fun. No disagreement. I usually recommend the Glock for beginners or those who can only have one weapon, for whatever reason.

.40 is the perfect mix of power, speed, and capacity.

I love my Glock .40 and I will never give it up.

I've got the M1a. Love that thing, seems like the clips in the garand would be tideous. I prefer the mag fed. Garand is BA though.

I'd echo what has already been said, get a gun for protection! A shotgun is a great choice for home protection. If you get a pistol for home defense (or any defense) get some hollow point rounds as there will be less chance for penetration through walls and more damage to the perpetrator of the crime.

I have a:
Glock 26 9mm
12 Gauge CZ-USA Over/Under (not the greatest for home defense)

Mag fed is definitely preferable, but as a shooters gun, the M1 just has too much history to ignore... but I would love to own an M1A!! All those old WW2 rifles are special to me. Luckily the feds sell M1s for cheap compared to what they get on the open market.

You can get them re-conditioned surplus pretty cheaply, as you say.

All I need is revolver that shoots 357 magnum, 38 special +P and 38 specials. Them my collection will be about finished. I may buy a small conceal carry 45 acp as well. Remember, it is all better to have and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
