Fans everywhere are stupid
Memphis fans are no smarter or dumber than any other fan base. Read any other message board. Every other fan base criticizes their coach too much, gives their coach too much credit, thinks their players are better than they are, thinks their players should be better than they actually are... I could go on.
A fan is a fanatic. We are unreasonably critical when we lose and unreasonably optimistic when we win. That's the joy of the roller coaster ride that is fanatacism.

RE: Fans everywhere are stupid
Yeah but some take it too far. Much like a he said/she said situation the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.
Josh has more to prove before he can be considered a top coach.
Josh has done a great job keeping us relevant during what could have been a disaster.
I think if you honestly grade Josh considering all aspects of coaching he would be a B to B+
Interestingly enough a few missed or made shots here or there and he could be an A or even a C-.
Calm down and enjoy the ride, we have smart people in the AOB now and the program will be fine.

RE: Fans everywhere are stupid
Thank you, for the post. I am tired of this "Fire Pastner" fanbase when the Tigers have a rough going. Sure, everyone wants their team to win it all. But, the Tigers fans need to realize, unless we can recruit some Top 50 recruits every year, we will not be contenders for the Title. Sure, I have issues with Pastner, but like you mentioned, every fanbase has it for their HC. I can't imagine how much criticism Coach K gets the very rare years he can't get Duke to the NCAA Tourney. Our program has had great tradition for a while, but the national media has not really been educated about the past, and understand how great our program really is. It don't help that most media don't seem to embrace the Memphis program.
But, I am not a fan of the Memphis Tigers just when they have great years. I am a fan through the lean years, also. And, this might end up being a lean year. And, I don't feel Pastner deserves to be let go this year. Tell me who Memphis can replace Pastner with that will get us to the NCAA Tourney on a regular basis over 5 years. Sure, I would love to have a HC like Coach K or Pitino, but we do not have the money for them.

Double hand claps for this thread, I always try to be even keeled when it comes to our program. Sure Coach can get better, but a made shot against Arizona when D. Williams blocked Wesley, the team could have made it to the sweet 16 that year. That year would have changed opinions, think about it, ONE SHOT! Coaches 1st year, 1 made shot against Duke, E.Williams missed it, changed perception. Things need to get better of course, but I agree with his grade, B Plus to B -.

This was nothing short of a surprise, but some fans are still crazier then others.

Fans everywhere are stupid
Memphis fans are passionate, especially when it comes to basketball. It's a job under the microscope, always has been. If a coach can't take it, then they shouldn't be here. Not saying I agree or disagree, it's just the way it is. It's also why some coach's won't take this job. The trade off us if you succeed and treat the programs with respect, then you become a legend.
