Is the B1G still interested in Virginia? - Hokie Mark - 03-17-2018 09:58 AM

What would they be willing to offer in return? All of a sudden I'm in a mood to make a deal...

We'll take Virginia but yall have to keep the loss for the record books.

You could at least toss in a few hundred pounds of crab cakes - we'll need them for the UVA goodbye party!

You can have Northwestern for UVA. We will throw in Purdue for UNC since they are really tarnishing the ACC although Michigan State is more appropriate with their current embarrassment of multiple scandals between that Olympic doctor, the sexual assault accusations towards the football and basketball teams, and the FBI shoe investigation.

In a heartbeat we'd take UVA. And for recompense we'll arrange for WVA to move to the ACC with no Grant of rights business.
If you can't dig that we'll take UVA & WVA and give you Northwestern & Purdue.

In all seriousness. Really tough loss for the hoos. They'll bounce back but that's not the kind of history they wanted to be a part of.

If an exchange is made, I prefer Va Tech and NC State, two schools similar to UMCP.

Heck, I wouldn't taking UConn (assuming Randy Edsall turns around the football program) and WVU (what the hell) to get to 16.

But VPI and NCSU > UConn and WVU.

Tempting (as a Hokies fan), but I think from the ACC's point of view it's UVA in a one-for-one trade OR with Wake Forest (to reduce the ACC to 12 members). Either would be profitable to both leagues (though I'm sure the Big Ten would prefer UVA + UNC... which, the more I think about it, might not be so bad for the ACC either).

The straight up trade idea makes the most sense, I think. ACC has 2 schools in VA and 4 in NC; B1G has 2 schools in Indiana, 2 in Michigan and 2 in Illinois. Let's make a deal... UVA + UNC + Wake Forest for Purdue + Michigan State + Northwestern?

No? You need Duke instead of Wake Forest? ...hmmmmmmmmmmmm

WHAT?! You expect the B1G to give up CHICAGO'S Big Ten Team? Wake just isn't going to cut it.

Chicago is one of my favorite cities. So I wouldn't trade NW, not even for Duke.

I would offer a straight trade of UNC + UVA for MSU + PU. Michigan State and Purdue would complement Louisville and Pitt in the Midwest region. Syracuse and Boston College would connect with them and Miami with BC/SU. So you'd get a division that gives the northern schools one trip to Florida every two years in division. Michigan State would gain in recruiting over time as they get out of the shadow of UM and OSU. Then both PU and MSU get into the regular ACC rotation with Notre Dame, which is an important game for each.

PU, MSU, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, BC, Miami

VT, NCSU, FSU, Duke, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest

Either ND, Duke and Cuse put their lacrosse programs in the Big East or they do an affiliation deal with the Big Ten, similar to Johns Hopkins. Women's lacrosse might still be sponsored by the ACC, don't quote me on that.

On the Big Ten's side it would be a little complicated. Gaining two big states in the East would be huge in recruiting but a lot of teams in the West would want that access. So they might try a zippered format to get those teams as many trips to the recruiting states as possible.

Nebraska, Penn State, Northwestern, Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois

Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Virginia, Minnesota

Transic nyc, I suspect the traditionalists would never agree to part with MSU and PU, especially if it helps ND. Moreover, if college athletics is moving towards an audience-driven, pay for play model, I imagine the Midwestern fans would not want their traditional rivalries further disrupted or even severed.
