The "blue bloods" were cheating, color me shocked.

Looking at the list of "Names", I feel sorry for Xavier and Wichita State... They're about to get it with no vaseline 04-jawdrop

RE: OT: School names coming out in basketball scandal - usm99 - 02-23-2018 09:22 AM

My guess is the NCAA will wait until after this year's March Madness is over to take any action so the guilty players can "finish" their college careers on the court as well as it won't be a mess trying to figure out who is eligible and who isn't come March Madness.

And Wichita State.

Effing North Carolina cheating again.

When the hades are they going to get penalized ? Enough is enough.

RE: OT: School names coming out in basketball scandal - TribeNiner - 02-23-2018 09:27 AM

This, so far, is different from past scandals, though (from what I can see). As I understand it, this wasn't to get players to a particular school or keep them eligible (nor does it appear the schools were directly involved, even if they may have known about it); rather, this appears to be a sports agency giving money to players to encourage them to sign with the agency for when they turned pro. That's certainly different than fake classes, schools paying players, changing grades, plagiarism, etc.

Why would the NCAA Big Wigs punish themselves?

Any player getting dollars by a agent that school should forfeit every game they played in.....

Louisville forfeit every game for 5 years, including a NCAA Championship because of $10,000 worth of strippers and what goes with it...extra benefits

Of course the NCAA will not do that. They will say "the school did not know". Hell that did not stop the NCAA for taking away Western's and Nova's F4 because a kid signed with a agent after the season but before the F4.

I hear you. A large part of it is the lessening of punishments over the years - just look at what made NCSU ineligible in 1973 (a player arrived to campus a week early and stayed in a dorm room for a week ), it would be laughed off today. Instead, they went undefeated that year and couldn't go to the tournament. WKU's 1971 Final Four likely wouldn't be vacated today. That's how things have changed over the past half century.

As for Louisville, it is about the school's direct involvement - Louisville was using strippers, etc. (far more than $10,000 worth, it appears, as well) to lure players to Louisville. There's a distinct difference.

To be sure - this definitely crosses into impermissible benefits (because such benefits wouldn't be available to the regular student body), but there's a real difference in the types of infractions. This isn't cheating to make the teams better or give them an unfair advantage in some way. That's a big difference in my book.

Is there really that much difference between strippers or a few 20 year old college students dropping their clothes, dropping to their knees? Recruits are recruited by arranged sex just as often as Louisville paid the strippers. I guess the difference is...paid while the slut took it for the team.

Yeah - sorry my edit came after you started your response.

To be sure - this definitely crosses into impermissible benefits (because such benefits wouldn't be available to the regular student body), but to me there's a real difference in the types of infractions. This isn't cheating to make the teams better or give the school an unfair advantage in some way (recruiting, eligibility, competitiveness, etc.). This wasn't performed by the "offending" schools in an effort to widen the gap between the offending schools and the non-offending schools or create some advantage for the offending schools.

Nothing will happen to these schools. It's just like the Washington politicians and bureaucrats that get away scott free from crimes. They're not held accountable to the same laws/rules as the rest of us.

And should forfeit any remaining NCAA eligibility if he's still a part of the team.

RE: OT: School names coming out in basketball scandal - THUNDERStruck73 - 02-23-2018 11:21 AM

With all of these big time programs being listed, USM is sure gonna get the hammer dropped on them.

RE: OT: School names coming out in basketball scandal - Theflash - 02-23-2018 11:39 AM

I would think they’ll have to drop the hammer on some of them. No choice at this point!

RE: OT: School names coming out in basketball scandal - UABslant - 02-23-2018 11:50 AM

When a player's payout is labeled "Bad Loan" when he doesn't sign with UK, my guess is this is way more than agents getting a jumpstart on their client list.

RE: OT: School names coming out in basketball scandal - ODUsmitty - 02-23-2018 11:54 AM

Looks like Donte Hill will have to give up another year of eligibility.

Unfortunately, their ties go extremely deep. The good thing is everyone now knows when someone says the "Carolina Way' it means cheating, corruption, and coverup.
