Louisville’s 2013 national basketball championship stricken from history as NCAA denies school’s appeal

An NCAA appeals committee announced Tuesday that it has rejected the appeal of sanctions against the University of Louisville men’s basketball program and the school must vacate wins during the 2011-12 through 2014-15 seasons, including its 2013 NCAA Tournament title.

The ruling — a product of a sex scandal at U of L — marks the first time in NCAA history that a men’s basketball national championship has been banished from the record books.

Louisville has scheduled a press conference to respond.

This story will be updated.

Crazy that some universities get put through the ringer for violations and other skate scott free! also means Keatts no longer has a legit national title rings to wear.

What I read is they are still grooming him for GM and Kupchak would be a special advisor to the GM type of gig.

But how in the world did he end up in a near GM type of role. I had to double check it was the same guy who flopped as your coach.

There has been plenty of people that didn't make it as a player/coach/ but turn out to be good in front offices.

Granted, but its hard to trust Jordan's judgment on this call. He's always been bad about hiring his buddies into front office roles from the moment he became a front office guy/part owner in the NBA.

And even a bad x's and o's guy can have redeeming qualities like how they deal with personnel etc that can make a good front office person. Just not sure I saw any of those qualities while Buzz was at UNCW. Then again I dont follow your program either my viewpoint is purely from watching only a few games a year (when they played Drexel or were on tv)

Back on topic though, I am not surprised the NCAA is holding so strong in this case. They are trying to regain confidence in everyone that they can govern and will make tough decisions. While not a blue blood, Louisville was a good target to make a stand. So the NCAA is making sure they double and triple down on it so try and show their effectiveness so they arent overthrown.

It's just an instance of the NCAA being so mad at UNC that they punished Louisville.

As a NC guy (and a UNC fan by extension -- though honestly, less and less over the years especially given my undying loyalty to everything UNCW), I agree with that. UNC deserved a punishment, but they lawyered their way out of it; it wasn't because they weren't guilty, but because they used the letter of the law to prove the NCAA was reaching into someone else's jurisdiction.

I think we're all in agreement the NCAA doesn't have any real authority. Any time they want, schools can get together, collectively take their ball and go home. They don't need the NCAA, it's all just a front to make the business look legitimate and pretend that true amateurism ever existed.

As deplorable as the NCAA can be, if the P5 conferences took their ball and went home, you will never see a March Madness, College Word Series, etc like we currently have where a CAA or Big South school can make an impact on the national stage. Basketball and Baseball would turn into College Football where the non power conferences are lucky to get 1 bid to a major bowl every year. Under a new system, even that might be taken away.

Agreed, and I think that's the main reason they haven't done it yet. The only thing the NCAA does well is run a tournament.
