XFL return....more need for new stadium - stc - 01-25-2018 10:43 AM

If this league returned, would Birmingham get a team? This could be another solid reason for the new stadium. I actually feel that the league will have a better chance this time. They seem to be planning it out better this time.

I don't think there's room for two professional football leagues. College already serves as the "minor" or feeder league to the NFL

More power to McMahon if he thinks he can pull it off. I think a stadium in Birmingham is a good deal regardless of yet another tenant, so if it helps grease the skids, I'm all for it. I just would hate to see an XFL team pull attendance away from UAB or have higher scheduling priority than UAB, although I doubt this would be a Saturdays in the fall league anyway.

Considering how much our current president hates the NFL because of his not being able to buy the Bills for cheap....Vince will at least get some free publicity from the United States Executive Branch this time around.

The key is it needs to be a spring league. Not head to head with NFL and college. Say what you want about McMahon but he doesn’t seem to fail much. This seems like a redemption move to right a wrong. He wil be motivated. Theee is unrest around NFL for several reasons. Might be a decent time to have an alternative.

A spring league would extend the seasonal use for any new stadium built in B'ham. That would be a good thing.

He has failed in almost every non-wrestling related endeavor he's tried to date.

What would those failures be?

Spring football has always been viable. Greed and poor planning/management is what failed it...

Well, the XFL is one, obviously. The Times Square night club was a bit of a flop....the Canadian Niagara Falls store was a bust....the WBF (World Bodybuilding Federation) was a disaster....the Cape Cod hockey team....

Would love to go watch XFL (or whatever they're going to call it) games in Birmingham.

Good to know. I don’t follow that guy or wrestling.

Birmingham makes perfect sense for having an XFL team.

I've been watching Vince McMahon my entire life. He's obviously trying to make up for his greatest public failure and he's too old, out of touch and stubborn to realize this will once again be a complete disaster. He can try to market this to the MAGA red blooded Americans who just wanna watch football and not have to deal with all of the other B.S. but the truth is if the quality of play is subpar (which it will be) people are not going to watch. The fact that he wants to start the season in late January is insane.

Yep already looks like it will fail. No players who's had an dui? Welp hope we get a team in the reboot, nice to have the barons, bulls, and bolts back. Need an G league team now Birmingham blaze lol jk.

If Vince McMahon wants to be on the cutting edge of entertainment, he should be putting together a high-profile eSports league...not rebooting a failed football endeavor.

He'll likely just put this on a streaming service like they've done with the WWE (if not the same streaming service) so it's not that hard to think he'll be able to be successful without having to sink so much money into putting it on traditional TV

One of the better pieces of smack I've seen in the C-USA board:

I think it could work if done correctly. If you market it to the right people and have it at the right time of year it would at least be interesting to me. Just for simplicity’s sake if you created a team in alabama it would have to be made up of former Alabama and Mississippi college players. Make a bunch of teams like that and you would at least have some regional affiliations. If you have a team in Birmingham whose qb played at Washington and rb at ss state, who around here really cares?

I don't think it's a question, for 9.99 you get football and wrestling.

I remember the Steeldogs purging their roster and adding Gumps and Barns near the end and it backfired. hell they even added jay barker for a backup as a publicity stunt. The team tanked and attendance did as well. Just sign the best players and win. yea, you can add a couple local guys if good but this area only supports a winner, especially when the new wears off.
