I am still with either Dallas or ATL, maybe Austin. Indy closed their Airport in 2008 when they opened a brand new one nearby. That is a lot of unused real estate right off of 465 on the SW side.

I'm gonna go DC area.

RE: The Amazon HQ2 Shortlist - Lord Stanley - 01-18-2018 02:30 PM

Hmm. Thought Mpls would have made the short list.

Thanks Minnesota Democrats.

RE: The Amazon HQ2 Shortlist - stinkfist - 01-18-2018 02:32 PM

as I mentioned in that other thread, I still go with nashville.....

however, I could easily see a NE selection winning....

nashville is getting ready to fully explode relative to growth.....and it's already had a head start.....

I think if you had a shortlist of 5, DC area would be on it. They get could get it for sure.

3 dots within 25 miles of one another.

Shameless.

it's simply a distribution hub issue....

but yeah, I'm certain that didn't help.....

I've heard Bezos has a house in the area, he owns the Washington Post, and Amazon has data centers in the area as well.

Yea when they came out and publicly balked at offering Amazon incentives I hit the roof. Let them come for free for 15 years... The skilled workers and the personal income taxes alone would have made up for it.

Hoping for Indianapolis. Only red city on the map. #2 Pittsburgh because I have liked everyone I have met from that area. Last on the list is Northern Virginia. I travel there often and I can't imagine it being any worse.

As long as it is DC itself or Maryland, I don't care. Northern Virginia would be a disaster. The hell that would cause would far outweigh any benefit I receive as a Virginia resident.

I wouldn't wish Governor Mumbles even on California.

Most large cities are blue, suburbs red. Marion County Indy went for Hillary.

I expected Minneapolis and Baltimore, at least if they were going to list 20. But then Montgomery Co. MD is on the list along with DC.

I now remember that. That killed their chances. But I don't think Boston offered much either. However, other than cost of living, Boston is pretty ideal for what they want. I think cost of living will likely kill their bid. It will certainly kill NYC, LA and DC, although Montgomery Co. may have a shot.

RE: The Amazon HQ2 Shortlist - bullet - 01-18-2018 03:07 PM

They selected every American or Canadian metro with a population of 4.8 million (Boston at #10) or more except Houston. Seattle is 3.8 million and #15 in population. The only other cities they included:
19 Denver 2.9 million
26 Pittsburg 2.3
31 Austin 2.1
33 Columbus 2.0
34 Indianapolis 2.0
36 Nashville 1.9
43 Raleigh 1.3 (although Durham-Cary is another 600k)

If they cut it to 10, I suspect NYC, LA, DC, No. Va., Miami, Pittsburg, Columbus, Indianapolis, Nashville and Raleigh go away, leaving Austin, Denver and a bunch of large cities in the eastern and central time zone.

RE: The Amazon HQ2 Shortlist - Fort Bend Owl - 01-18-2018 03:25 PM

We should be honored here in Houston (not). If Stinkfest is right and they end up in Nashville, I'm going to try to convince my oldest daughter to go to Vanderbilt even more.

I just can't imagine how Austin could handle that many more people.

My Money is on Austin Tx.
