How Buffalo Cut Sports - emu steve - 01-18-2018 05:23 AM
UB has indeed cut some sports and at what I believe the min. for MAC and also complies with Title IX.
Just a quick look at the men's side of the listing: no men's swimming and diving (one of our all-time best sports. Luckey, it isn't football
) and baseball.EMU has put a lot of money into the baseball facilities with big contributions from big donors.

Yeah, but it would be chump change. Students would get in free. So it would be what mostly parents and friends of the players?
This is not SEC baseball which is quite good.
What's a typical crowd at an EMU home baseball game? what's the Ov/Un?

We already cut men's soccer. Would NEVER cut men's swimming/diving. Cutting women's rowing could be done IF a men's sport was cut.
And never want to cut baseball. We have too much invested in it.

The gross would be 14000 bucks for an entire season. Congrats, you've almost covered half a scholarship.

Consider the value of all of the scholarships, the salaries of the staff, and ALL of the travel involved in a sport which plays many, many games across the country.
I'm tossing out wild guesses, but the budget, including value of scholarships, could be around 1M bucks simply based on scholarships, salaries and travel costs (which is probably pretty high because unlike some sports baseball travel is more extensive to get out of the Midwestern cold in Feb and March).
Actually 14,000/1,000,000 would equal 1.4%. BUT I guarantee we'd never see 14K in baseball revenues. Might see maybe a few thousand dollars and those might be mostly from family of players.

I can, in a sense.
Bob is from the marketing / sales world.
In marketing, etc. there is a notion that the price of a good or service, in part, helps determine its PERCEIVED value to the consumer.
That is why tickets to big events are so ridiculously priced to lend the feeling that it is some of extraordinary value.
The old marketing joke is if something is cheap and of poor quality the best remedy is to raise the price and consumers will think it is a good product.
Raising the prices of EMU football tickets suggests that the product is improved.
If the Detroit Tigers lowered ticket prices this year by say 25% it would be a tacit admission that they believe the product to be of poor quality.
To get back to Bob's point, a nominal cost may change the perception of the value of EMU baseball, some, but probably not much.
