Drexel - Gary Miller - 01-02-2018 09:01 AM

Needless to say, this a must win. Drexel has lost 4 out of their last 5 games and an 0-2 start at home in conference needs to be avoided at all costs. Thought the defense looked significantly better on Saturday, offensive sets got the looks we wanted just didn't knock down the open shots. Wings Up!

They've been dealing with injuries lately. Especially big was the injury to their best player and Missouri transfer, Tramaine Isabell (foot). His last time in action (Dec 2), he put up 35 points in a win over a pretty good Rider team. They also beat Houston (12-2) back on Nov 17 in the Paradise Jam.

They're just a different team without Isabell.

We are 2 point favorites with the over/under at 153.5.

RE: Drexel - Seahawk Nation 08 - 01-02-2018 10:01 AM

Based on the numbers, Drexel likes to play a lot of isolation/1 on 1. That plays into our favor in some ways, since a lot of our problems on defense have been with rotations/help defense, where we leave an open shooter wide open. Drexel seems to be opting to try to create their own shots this season.

Only 4 players (3 starters) have appeared in all 14 games: Lee, Mojica, Williams, and lightly used freshman forward Tadas Kararinas (8.5 mpg). In part due to aforementioned injuries, 10 different players are averaging at least 10+ minutes. That kind of lack of continuity has been problematic for the Dragons.

I don't see how we are favored in any games until we prove we can win.

It's all about betting trends. And Vegas was very close to being spot on with their spread last time out. If we could have gotten 1 rebound and/or Fornes had hit that miracle 3-pointer at the buzzer, they'd have been exactly right.

I'm not saying we deserve to be favored either, but they don't really care about our record one way or the other. What's more, if this were a neutral site game, Drexel would be favored by a point.

RE: Drexel - Seahawk Nation 08 - 01-02-2018 10:12 AM

Isabell put up 21 points and 16 rebounds in that win over Houston by the way. Sheesh.

Line is now us by 2.5 with over/under at 153.

RE: Drexel - J.B. - 01-02-2018 03:33 PM

Drexel beat some good teams in LaSalle and Houston and almost beat Temple on the road. However, they beat 2 bad teams at home by 1 (Quinnipiac and Lafayette) and lost to some bad teams on the road (NJIT and Loyola). Right now, this is a bad Drexel team that's forced to get way too many minutes out of Lee and Mojica. These guys play their butts off when they're on the court, but their high number of minutes is hurting the team. If the team can get healthy and stay healthy for a long period of time an actually get some depth and a rotation going, they could be finish in the upper half of the CAA. But for now, I'm not expecting much out of them.

BTW, Drexel hasn't won a true road game outside of Philadelphia since December 2016. Except for a good win at Lasalle (just 8 miles from Drexel's campus) a few weeks ago, Drexel went 0 for 2017 on the road.

RE: Drexel - bricksnivy - 01-02-2018 03:36 PM

Brian Mull said today that Drexel is starting to get healthy. Is Isabell expected to play tonight?

RE: Drexel - solohawks - 01-02-2018 05:45 PM

New Hanover county school has been cancelled tomorrow cause it's flipping cold outside and inclement weather is projected. That might impact attendance tonight

Just found out he’s dressed tonight. We’ll have to see if he starts and/or is on a minutes restriction.

RE: Drexel - Water Boy - 01-02-2018 06:49 PM

I'm curious what you guys think about this quote that was in the pregame write-up at http://alwaysadragon.com/uncw-away-pregame-2/

"UNCW for some strange reason decided to hire a Roy Williams assistant as its head coach. Roy is among the very worst in game coaches in the country. Unless you are going to get the very best players, Roy and the people under him are not what you want. UNCW is paying the price."

Personally I think it is a bit early to be judging a coach especially when he came in with the cupboard pretty bare, unlike Keatts who had a veteran team to work with when he came in.

RE: Drexel - Seahawk Nation 08 - 01-02-2018 06:50 PM

Ours is same as usual. Talley, Fornes, Taylor, Bryan, Cacok.

Listening to Zach Spiker on the pregame, it sounds like Isabell is unlikely to play.

RE: Drexel - B_Hawk06 - 01-02-2018 07:17 PM

I see we've already matched our 3-pt production from the Delaware game.

LOL

RE: Drexel - B_Hawk06 - 01-02-2018 07:22 PM

Talley is having an efficient scoring night already with just over 12 min remaining in the first half. 2-5 FG, including a 3-pt, and 2-2 from the FT line. Also has 2 assist and 0 turnovers so far. Good to see he's playing well. We need that big time tonight. Can't afford a loss here at all.
