"What is the strategy to improve facilities, TV exposure?" - hiroshimacarp - 12-22-2017 10:54 PM

metsox asked and i delivered. i'm trying to come on here more when i'm bored. it saves me money because i'm not on fanatics or ebay buying stuff.

i've been away so i can't speak to ticket prices. everything is new to me so i'm in a honeymoon phase where i'm just happy to be here.

i do feel like we're at the mercy of the success of our team. we haven't been very good so we're not going to draw the average basketball fan. my impression is philly college basketball as a whole is down while villanova is way up. the market share is there for the taking.

the biggest mistake that was made was letting us hit rock bottom. it was only a matter of time.

i'm disappointed they're not moving the game on saturday. the closer i get to the weekend...the more pumped i am for the eagles game and less excited i am about driving over for our game.

i bring this up because the last time i was a season ticket holder (2010) we played the gmu game right after a blizzard ended. that was one of the most anticipated games of the year and i couldn't get there. this year i only have a 5 game plan...but i'm wondering if i'll even do that next year. it's not worth the time/money if we're not going to be flexible when other things are going on.

i do plan to renew my penn state football season tickets. they have home games against michigan state, ohio state, iowa, and wisconsin next year.

Yeah, they should be pestering the league office and Hofstra to bump the game up earlier. I can’t make it due to family commitments, but I’m not sure I’d pass on watching the Eagles at home over dealing with traffic to get to the DAC.

I can understand why they wouldn't want to change it. The time has been set for months and people who bought tickets have plans to attend at this time. If you give an inch here, they'll have people complaining in the future when they don't change the game time around a less significant event. It is what it is.

Granted, there will be 2 TV's showing the game in the President Suite, and anybody, like myself, who sits in the last row of the East seats can watch the game just by turning around. The game will also be on in the Blue and Gold Room, so you can watch some of it at halftime. The Blue and Gold Club is holding an event so that you can stay and watch the 2nd half after the game. The Drexel game will probably be over during the 2nd quarter of the Eagles game. I actually expect to be home by the start of the 2nd half. So while there are plenty of reason's why you may want to rip our athletic department, not changing the time of a Drexel game to accommodate Eagles fans shouldn't be one of them.

I received an e-mail too that the Blue and Gold Room will be open after the game as well to watch the rest of the Eagles game.

thanks. there's a train show in valley forge that morning. I don't know what we're going to do.

while you're right it's not something to get too bent out of shape about...I live almost 2 hours away so driving home for the second half isn't in the picture. I realized I'm in the minority with driving those distances. It might get to a point where driving to some of the road games...which I really enjoy...is better than driving into philly.

Admittedly...if we start playing a better brand of basketball...I'll be there and so will lots of other people.

Can you watch the Eagles in a bar in Philadelphia before going home?

#9 athletics moment of 2017, according to our athletic director:

In 2017, we opened the Dragon Lounge and Fueling Station in the DAC. Since then, 87 percent of our 473 student-athletes used over 16,000 products that were provided for them, consuming more than 2 million calories, including over 2,500 Rice Krispies.

Professional teams change game times to accommodate bigger events, the Penguins are doing it this weekend.

Pretty sure I remember it happening when the Phils were making runs deep into the postseason. Apparently we did look into it. You need the league and opposing team to both agree and we weren’t able to get it done. Full marks for trying, it was the smart thing to do, hopefully we draw a decent crowd as I know a lot of work has been done to try and accomplish that.

I'm not sure about how Pittsburgh is mapped out, but I can understand the Philadelphia pro-teams working their schedule out around Eagles games because the stadiums are so close together. The really don't like to have other events in the stadium complex when there is an Eagles game since the 70,000 Eagles fans need to utilize all of the parking.

There is some sort of concert at the WFC tonight, but it doesn't start until 9:45.

But with Drexel, the DAC is far enough away from the sports complex that it doesn't cause an issue, especially since many of the 700 or so fans who will be there today live on campus anyway.

i could've done that...but i have a 3 year old and a little bit of a drive back home. staying home worked out especially since the eagles won.

some of you are saying our athletic department tried to move the game. that's all we can do and i'm glad there was some common sense.

RE: "What is the strategy to improve facilities, TV exposure?" - J.B. - 01-14-2018 12:44 PM

We got to watch a lot of the Eagles game during timeouts by turning around and watching from the President's Suite. We also watched a bit during halftime in the Blue and Gold Room. We left the game with about 4:45 left and Hofstra seemingly had the game in hand. I ended up missing Drexel's furious comeback at the end but they still ended up losing. We were home just in time to see Jake Elliot's long field goal to end the 1st half.

So it all worked out, and I got to see a huge Eagles win on TV. I'll save my opinions on the Drexel MBB team for another day. Today I'm heading back to the DAC to see Drexel's successful basketball team play.

There's one next week too. Lana Del Rey is playing Sunday night.

As for the Eagles game, we asked the question of why the game was not changed. We were told that in order to get a game changed, you need to get the conference and the other team to agree to it. Drexel apparently attempted to get the game time changed, but they were not successful. There was no indication of which level the attempt failed at.
