Expectations in next four? - doss2 - 11-27-2017 11:50 PM

Major bummer if 0-4
Disappointed if 1-3
Minimum acceptable 2-2
Very happy 3-1
Getting numbers ready for banner if 4-0

RE: Expectations in next four? - stxrunner - 11-27-2017 11:53 PM

2-2 is ok but was hoping for special

3-1 is very good, proves we are legit

4-0 is maximum excitement

Anything less than 2-2 is a failure for a team this talented IMO.

RE: Expectations in next four? - TubaCat - 11-28-2017 12:11 AM

I have to agree... 2 - 2 is bare minimum, 3 - 1 is good, 4 - 0 is outstanding.

RE: Expectations in next four? - bearcatdp - 11-28-2017 07:03 AM

I know we aren't supposed to peak until March but, if this team truly is special, we will be 3-1 in the next 4. 2-2 is acceptable to me but it would be a little disappointing. We need at least wins against x and Mississippi State. I would love to see us avenge last year's loss to UCLA and I want to see how we play against Florida - UC needs to show that we are at least as athletic as Florida for is to be legit.

Looks like everyone in this thread (myself included) are on the same page.

It's difficult to know what UC has at this point. The pieces are there, but they probably have not had enough time to gel and obviously have not been challenged much.

It's a tough stretch for sure but will give UC the experience they need. I hope for nothing less than 2-2.

Should Cronin still be HC if this squad bottoms out?

RE: Expectations in next four? - bearcatlawjd2 - 11-28-2017 08:04 AM

4-0 and UC is on the way to a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAA tournament.
3-1 and a protected seed is possible.
2-2 and UC is probably capped at 4 seed unless they dominate the league. No less than 2-2 would be acceptable and it almost has to include a win over Xavier or Florida because Miss State and UCLA are not high level wins this year. A win over UCLA on the road would still be a good win but I am not sold on the Bruins. Also, I don't to the pressure of having to sweep the last two games.
1-3 and 0-4 and UC fighting to make the tournament.

I am expecting 3-1 but 2-2 is almost as likely.

Have I had to put money it, I would say I am expecting 2-2, but would be pleased with 3-1. 4-0 and I am ready to start the undefeated conversation.

Florida is really good and that is a tough place to play. Florida is a top 5 team in the country IMO. I would be very surprised if we came out of Gainesville with a W. I still see some glaring flaws with our team that I believe have not yet been exposed. I am not very optimistic about our next 2 games.

FWIW the game is neutral site in NJ but i wholeheartedly agree with you that Florida won't be easy.

I think 1-3 is a realistic possibility but my expectation is 2-2. If these games were spread out over the course of the season the impact on UC's ranking and national perception might be mitigated somewhat. The haters will say UC feasted on poor competition to rise in the polls early and didn't deliver when given December opportunities against top teams. Fair or not, that's the narrative I expect with 1-3.

UC trailed X a good part of the second half last year @ 5th/3rd and we've all seen how the ball bounces and the officials whistles blow @ Cintas. Florida could have easily beaten Duke; they looked tall, fast and athletic and can shoot the deep three. UCLA catches UC after a long flight in the friendly confines of Pauley Pavilion with blue chip talent. Mississippi State would appear to be the most likely victory in this four game stretch and I don't think they're a pushover.

By New Year's Eve we're going to have a much better assessment of this team's true potential--good or great.

RE: Expectations in next four? - Banter - 11-28-2017 09:06 AM

Given my time as a Bearcat Basketball fan I am expecting to go 1-3 in the 4 game stretch. I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

RE: Expectations in next four? - BearcatMan - 11-28-2017 09:14 AM

I think we have one win (Mississippi State), two toss-ups (@UCLA and @Xavier), and one fairly certain loss (Florida). So 2-2 would be fine, given that we'll probably only have three more losses on the year looking at how garbage our conference is.

RE: Expectations in next four? - CliftonAve - 11-28-2017 09:23 AM

I'm going to split the baby and say 2-2. I hope I'm wrong and we pull off the sweep, however I am concerned how this team has not yet faced anyone close to them (or better) in talent, have basically played in half empty arenas (at home) and in elementary schools. We have yet to see how they will fare in front of a crowd of 10,000 hostile fans.

Should Not Duane be a poster if he can't be real?

You people have got to be the most miserable bunch of people in Cincinnati, Jesus.

I'm thinking that UC goes 3-1. Mississippi State ends up being a bad loss if we do lose. I think we get Xavier this Saturday, beat UCLA, and lose close to Florida.

There's a pretty good chance that UC will be favored against Florida. On a neutral court, this team will not play a game that is a fairly certain loss.

Sagarin has UC as the favorite in all but the Xavier game (has UC as 47% to win that one). True road games are really difficult. Sagarin has UC at 54% against Florida, 67% against UCLA and 93% against Mississippi State (the value of playing at home).
