Should USF Beat UCF - Nobody4Prez - 11-19-2017 11:58 PM

Who gets the home game for the AAC Championship?

RE: Should USF Beat UCF - Nobody4Prez - 11-20-2017 12:01 AM

Let’s say USF wins by 3 points

Will Points For/Points Against be factored?

Obviously UCF beat our ass so hopefully margin of victory isn’t a deciding factor

Wikipedia says the following:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Athletic_Conference_Football_Championship_Game

Quote:Site selection criteria:

The site of the Championship Game is the home stadium of the division champion with the best overall conference record. In the event that the two division champions are tied, then the head-to-head record shall be used as the tiebreaker. If the two teams did not play, the following procedure is used to determine the host:[5]

College Football Playoff ranking, under the following conditions:

If only one division champion is ranked entering the final week of conference play, it will host if it wins in that week. If that team loses, a composite of four computer rankings is used to determine the host.

If both division champions are ranked, the higher-ranked team that won in the final week will host. If, in this scenario, neither wins in the final week, the same computer ranking system is used.

If neither division champion is ranked, the aforementioned computer rankings are used.

If neither CFP nor computer rankings determine a host, the teams' records against common conference opponents are used.

If still tied, overall record determines the host.

Finally, a coin toss is held at the conference offices.

So, no head to head for USF.
Next tie breaker is CFP Playoff ranking.

So, if we beat ECU, and USF beats UCF, it's up to the CFP committee. Since we have a better overall profile, I'd assume we get it, but it's up for grabs.

If UCF beats USF, we're off to Orlando...

Do I have this right?

As long as USF does not jump us in this Tuesday's playoff poll then we host if they beat UCF and we beat ECU.

On a side note let says UCF wins on Friday Night?

How long do we play our starters on Saturday?

When do we bring in back ups and let them get game experience?

Gotta win. Lose to ECU (unlikely, but still) and beat UCF, we would be a two loss AAC champ and then might not hold off Boise.

Play the guys as long as that takes.

Oy.

We luck out in that the location of the AAC championship game is determined BEFORE the CFP ranking that will happen a week from this Tuesday. So, we need all of the following to happen to get another game in Memphis:

1. Memphis must beat ECU
2. USF must beat UCF
3. The CFP ranking due tomorrow (not next week) must have Memphis ahead of USF. Note that this will happen before USF plays UCF.

RE: Should USF Beat UCF - Mimi - 11-20-2017 10:40 AM

It would seem impossible that USF would go from unranked to ahead of us...when we were 21, won big against a good team, while they were outside, and won over a Tulsa team that we also beat...the crap out of.

Would defy all logic.

Boise is the worry...although would suspect absent a Memphis loss to ECU, they have no chance.

I sure would feel better if we had been at least competitive against UCF. We were completely unprepared for that.

From the season opener and UCF, Ferguson didn't exactly inspire confidence in the rain, but there was rain yesterday and at the very least the ball was wet, and Ferguson played great.
