Predictions for this Men's Basketball season? - Slinkin Street Flash - 11-08-2017 09:12 AM

I'd put out there - 1st place in the MAC East. 6-6 out of conference.

Jaylin Walker at least 2nd team All-MAC - with all the losses across the league, possibly first team

Jalen Avery at least 3rd team All-MAC

Any other players getting end-of-year MAC honors (freshmen team, defense team, honorable mention)?

Adonis De La Rosa will get a lot of minutes up front - who will get the most minutes between Pippen, Frederick, Nwankwo, and Duling? Which will make the most impact?

Will Akron get 10 wins this season?

I would hope that BJ Duling would earn all-freshman team honors. Cannot remember the last time a freshman from KSU made the team.

I like it but if Walker can stay healthy, I see him as the best player in the conference. Do not under sell B J Duling. When he learns that he is no longer a timid freshman, you will see things that will really impress you. He appears to still be growing and we have not ever seen a player with his movement and size as a freshman at Kent. I can not wait to watch him Saturday night.

Watching the Wooster game, Duling did show the best out of him, Pippen, Frederick, and Nwankwo. If he's the second forward after De la Rosa, he should get the opportunity

Hustle Belt has us tied for the 7th best team in the MAC?
What I've seen so far from them is:
#12 Miami
#10 Northern Illinois
#9 Toledo
#7 (tie) Bowling Green
#7 (tie) Kent
They also have a previews for Central and Eastern Michigan, but it doesn't say where they rank them

They also have Jaylin Walker as the 5th best player in the MAC this year.

REALISTICALLY ... I think that is not too far off. WMU-BSU-Buff are clear top three ... BG-EMU-KSU-Tol-OU are the next tier all in the eye of the beholder ... can see KSU anywhere in that number ...

All-MAC team ...
If Walker plays like he did the last 10 games of last year, he's in the Top 5 ... if he plays like he did the first 20-games, he may not be third team.

Let's face it .. the "Good" sample size on him is still pretty small.

Chris Singletary and Rod Sherman in 2006-2007 made the all-freshman team. Just noting though, that Mitch Peterson scored more (185 points) as a freshman than either of them, and also more than DeAndre Haynes (168 points)

That would be cause for my Rays Place Happy Dance

Jaylin Walker at least 2nd team All-MAC - with all the losses across the league, possibly first team
Agree. Walker having a big season will be key to KSU success this season.

Jalen Avery at least 3rd team All-MAC
That isn't saying much

I think you have to keep reasonable expectations (probably low expectations) on De La Rosa this season. Just haven't seen it. Say what you will about the MAC but successful post players either have tremendous strength or reasonable quicks. Not sure either have been evident with ADLR just yet. If he is out their grinding, though, good for him and all the better for Kent State.

Will Akron get 10 wins this season?
yes. that is a good basketball coach.

Looking at how we've done so far - we did have some solid teams scheduled where we could have proved that we would be a top MAC team - Loyola, Albany, Valparasio, Northeastern, Oregon State. With these, we're 1-3 with one game left.

On the other end - 3 of our opponents haven't won yet - YSU, MVSU, and NSU

The Southeast loss is painful. A win at Wright State would have been a boost. I was hoping to be in the top 4 of the MAC teams in Sagarin now, as it is, we're 9th of of 12.

Here's the current Sagarin computer rankings for our opponents in 2017-2018
8 Xavier-Ohio 89.83 11 1
95 Buffalo 76.93 6 4
101 Loyola-Chicago 76.19 9 2
120 Ball State 75.08 6 4
123 Albany-NY 74.88 10 3
125 Valparaiso 74.83 7 4
132 Northeastern 74.47 6 5
140 Ohio 73.79 6 5
141 Eastern Michigan 73.75 5 2
147 Oregon State 73.46 8 3
160 Central Michigan 72.71 7 2
171 Toledo 71.62 5 5
181 Wright State 70.91 5 5
183 Western Michigan 70.52 4 5
187 Akron 70.33 6 2
216 Kent State 68.58 4 6
221 Northern Illinois 68.01 4 5
242 Bowling Green 66.69 6 4
266 Miami-Ohio 65.43 5 4
270 SE Louisiana 65.14 3 6
283 Cleveland State 64.07 2 7
335 Youngstown State 57.66 0 10
340 Norfolk State 56.94 0 10
346 MVSU(Miss. Valley St.) 54.18 0 12
