The Big East Church League's best days are behind them... - C0|db|00ded - 10-27-2017 01:09 PM

The Big Pee is absolutely trending down. They made a little noise with a bounty of at-large bids (winning very few NCAA games) based on a mirage - aka RPI hacking strategy - which was cute (the MVC did the same back in 2006 and finished 4th in RPI in the country). But the general public isn't stupid, they know the Pee is nothing but the dregs of the old Big East and a couple new mid-majors sprinkled in for filler.

Villanova, a poor man's version of UCONN, is now the leader of this new church conference and should be able to continue to win as long as nothing really crazy happens inside the program; i.e. sexual deviancy charges. Eventually the Pee will settle around 2-3 bids a year (in a strong year) with the AAC settling around 4-5. The AAC just has bigger brands than Pee, and while a couple are currently down, they'll be back. If current National Power Wichita State continues on their expected trend, this reality of a 4-5 bid average will happen sooner rather than later.

Considering the fact that the AAC plays football, preference will be made to broadcast AAC games in all sports on the major networks where a contract is signed... over Church League ball. When the Fox Sports contract runs out, it will surely be renegotiated lower as it's been a net loser for Fox. Priest-ball started off with a bang, but fizzled quickly as the brand recognition of the Big East name had an expiration date - which just happens to be quickly approaching. All the low-information basketball fans have been tuning in (after they locate the channel) to Big East games saying, "WTF?! Where is Syracuse, UCONN, Pitt, Notre Dame, Cincy, Louisville, etc." They soon realize they're watching a game of Suburban H.O.R.S.E. between the Omaha BJ's and Seton Fail and they're like... *click* *click* *clickity* *click*

I don't really care about basketball, but out of curiously, do you have any data to support the eminent decline of the Big East? Seriously, I am intrigued by that league, and whether they will succeed or not.

Big East will be fine. Happy to see the AAC being so generous to let a junior college from the mid-west in their conference. I hear University of Phoenix has stricter admissions requirement than WSU.

Quote:The Big East has yet to recover its mojo.

Villanova-Creighton scored a 0.7 final rating and 1.1 million viewers in Saturday’s Big East Tournament final on FOX, down 22% in ratings and 21% in viewership from Seton Hall-Villanova last year

The Big East title game, once the crown jewel of championship week, has yet in four years on Fox Sports to attract even half of the audience it earned in its final year on ESPN — 3.4 million for Louisville-Syracuse in 2013. That is despite boasting the defending national champion Wildcats, the #1 overall seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament bracket.

Even the AAC in its current down status beat the Church League last year in viewership.

Is this a bait thread to see how many Big Pee fans read the board?

Already nabbed one in 20 minutes. Not bad.

What does admission requirements have to do with our top 5 ranking and the Church League's impending doom as an interesting sports choice?

P.S. Hows 'bout that Omaha BJ Suburban H.O.R.S.E. series? I just love it when players clear the paint and jack up mid-major bombs all game long. That's how you spell E-X-C-I-T-I-N-G!

P.S.S. How 'bout dem Hoyas? You guys got anybody that can dunk?

You guys have a really good basketball program. I like Gregg Marshall but you guys are still a college right? Are you like..a for profit college? Do kids just sign on the dotted line and get in?

But hey I guess it'll add more eyeballs when you guys play....at least you have a good basketball program so that's nice.

Use any words you'd like in an attempt to distract from the fact that the clock has struck midnight and Teh Pee's Holy foot does NOT fit the P6 glass slipper. And that Lambo you rode to the ball in; brother... you're ridin' home in a Buick.

Is Georgetown still in DI athletics? I couldn't tell after looking at your non-con schedule this year.

Well, I'll let you off the hook on this one. I know reading isn't part of the curriculum they teach at WSU.

I never imagined a day when a Georgetown fan would run on to an athletics message board with academic smack.

A Georgetown fan is exactly who I would expect to hurl academic smack. There isn't a single kid at Georgetown that wasn't rejected by somewhere better. And, yeah, I know I went to Cornell, the least of the Ivies.
