We play four teams Florida, Wichita State, X and UCLA, that are in the initial top 25. Our SOS should not be a problem this year. We just need to win some games!

Go Cats!

RE: UC 13th in initial coaches poll - UCGrad1992 - 10-19-2017 05:21 PM

Preseason Coaches Poll:

1. Duke
2. Michigan State
3. Kansas
4. Kentucky
5. Arizona
6. Villanova
7. Florida
8. Wichita State
9. North Carolina
10. West Virginia
11. USC
12. Miami
13. Cincinnati
14. Notre Dame
14. Minnesota
16. Louisville
17. Xavier
18. UCLA
19. Gonzaga
20. Northwestern
21. Purdue
22. Saint Mary's
23. Seton Hall
24. Baylor
25. Alabama

Couple of observations...the importance of adding Wichita State to our league was key for legitimacy with the other big boy conferences. If we can have several consecutive years when UConn, Memphis, SMU and Temple are strong together with us and WSU that would really be on par with the current Big East and other P5's.

Imagine if WSU was not in our league this year. The American would only have one team ranked. Notice outside of the P5, the Big East and West Coast conferences have three and two teams each ranked. The American is right there with two and ranked higher than their five with the exception of Nova.

We are ranked higher than DaVille and Eggsavier and no other Ohio team is ranked, nor is Indiana. That's always good from a regional recruitment and brand perspective.

We're getting more love and attention, but as I've said in other threads, it's time to put the rubber to the road and go out and make it happen on the court. Preseason rankings are great but it's how you end the year that really counts. I remain optimistic that this will be a special year for our program.

Seconded.

I hope the fact that Broome had a redshirt year and practiced with the people he's with now, makes it an easy transition for the starters. It would be nice to come out on fire from the start.

Not sure what Broome can bring this year but anything above Jenifer would be a bonus. We're going to have opportunities to prove our mettle before league play begins. After the Cayman Islands Classic look at what the schedule is:

12/2 @Eggsavier
12/9 Florida (neutral court)
12/12 Miss St.
12/16 @UCLA

To help ease the football hangover, basketball season beginning with our highly ranked Cats will feel like back in the day when I put up my first Farrah poster on my bedroom wall.

Who didn't have this poster back in the day?

People under the age of 50?

^ Hence I said "back in the day'.

Had that exact one Clifton and I just recently turned 50 Mark.

Looking at the schedule, my question is this: If UC basketball exits 2017 unranked because of three losses, how many will be breaking their legs jumping off the bandwagon? This is one heck of a pre-conference schedule.

@ X and @ UCLA are formidable. Florida neutral court will be a handful.

With a new point guard and the absence of a seasoned backcourt duo, I see some time needed for adjustment. And I still believe this will be Mick's best team yet.

RE: UC 13th in initial coaches poll - Bearcatbdub - 10-25-2017 01:04 PM

3 losses in the season will be a distant memory if this team peaks during tournament time and makes a deeeeeeeeeeeeeeep run.

RE: UC 13th in initial coaches poll - Recluse1 - 10-25-2017 01:12 PM

This is a pretty battle tested group, I know the point is new but at his previous school, he basically was the offense.
You put him with the kind of fire power we've got on the wings and a solid front court, then add to that the redshirt year he had to work with them; plenty of reason to think this will be a damn good team.

Mo just retweeted a Fox 19 reporter who asked a scout about Jacob Evans. Said he's on everybody's radar.

Good problem to have I guess.

I want to see some serious blowouts this season. As talented as this team is and as bad as our buy games are, this team should be putting up 90+ on the cupcakes.

ESPN had a ranking of the top 25 juniors for the NBA draft. Evans came in at 8. When you factor in the seniors, sophomores and freshman, even as skilled as he is, the 1st round may be a long shot. Hopefully we get a senior year, but if he has a huge year and can get drafted in the 1st round, that likely means good things.

The blurb on Evans:

Evans broke out as a sophomore, making 42 percent of his 3-pointers and showing intriguing sparks of versatility defensively and as a passer that hint at good things to come down the road. He has good physical attributes for the wing and seems to have plenty of room to continue to develop, as he was an extremely late bloomer in high school.

Evans has a ways to go as a ball handler, and his ability to develop into a better shot creator could seriously improving his NBA prospects. There's a market for wing players in his mold, and Evans is closer to a sophomore in age, giving him a little extra upside, considering his late growth spurt and unique trajectory.

RE: UC 13th in initial coaches poll - Recluse1 - 10-26-2017 07:21 PM

We're at 9 on ESPN's power rankings...
Wichita State at #5, Florida #12, Xavier #14 and UCLA at 21.

I know it's just pre-season, but it seems there are high expectations(for this team)EDIT* everywhere this year.

This could turn out to be a special season for UC basketball that would help cure the football hangover. Can't wait for the season to start...

Had that image on a t-shirt and wore it to junior high school. No teacher or principal ever said anything about it.
