CBS decided they didn't want ESPN to have all the early-season made-for-TV college basketball events, so they created their own, which will be in New Orleans on the Saturday before Christmas:

The date seems extremely questionable in terms of getting fans of the teams to travel to New Orleans, but as a TV event, if you really want to watch something that day, it's a pretty good alternative to the Birmingham Bowl.
