Word out of AL.Com is that Jay Jacobs Is Probably Gone at Auburn as A.D. - JRsec - 09-29-2017 10:16 PM

Good riddance! Time for new blood and hopefully not some local trustees buddy!

The trend recently has been to hire more of an executive type with business savvy rather than the old way of hiring influential alumni or coaches. There are positives and negatives to both approaches I guess.

It will be interesting to see what Auburn does next.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the basketball issue with Person is a great cover to get rid of him before he is held to task for his mishandling of the softball complaints of harassment against Clint Myers' son. It is also rumored, but unsubstantiated that another of our women's programs had an issue he bungled. Also circulating tonight is the claim that he was the one who suggested to Pearl that he hire Person.

Like I said good riddance, but it also looks like a timing move to help save face on the other issues.

New AD means new football coach. Maybe MBB too depending on how investigations go.

Well Gus's fate is in his own hands. If they win the rest and split between Georgia and Alabama he'll probably be okay. If he drops one of the next 7 and loses to both Georgia and Alabama then he's toast. I'm sure they didn't want Jacobs around to make the next hire for football. So Jacobs was going to be gone by the end of the season anyway. But with the basketball arrest of Person the timing was right to go ahead and make the move.

How much that involves Pearl remains to be seen.

Good points, but it just feels like it's time for Auburn to move beyond Gus and his system. There is too much pressure placed on the QB to learn that system and by the time they are ready they get injured for having to take all those hits from running the ball.

I don't disagree about the system, and I think Gus's time has passed as well. But to reach a consensus he's going to have to lose a couple of more times this year. But I'm not one to root against my school. So it will happen when it happens.

Lol. The Arkansas fan base doesn't share your belief in never rooting against your school. Large contingent hoping Brett loses a ton of games and is forced out.

As long as Brett gets to a bowl game he'll be fine. He'll have to make some changes to his staff to get the voltures off his back.

I couldn't find New Mexico State University on a map. But if they win today. It actually might be the final nail in Brett Bielemas coffin. Which is fine by me.

Well, you will get to close the season on a positive note, playing Missouri. 04-cheers

This modern series has been won by the home team regardless of the quality of the teams. So Arkansas "should " beat Mizzou, South Carolina is another one we'll have a shot at, LSU looks awful (they need to keep coach O until we play them). That's three SEC wins and we should have 3 cupcake W's.

Auburn's President has stated the reports are inaccurate.

Interesting development.

I was wondering if someone had done some fancy footwork at the last minute or what.

I guess it's telling though that Jacobs himself hasn't made any public statements the last few days.

Auburn can have our AD!!!! Don't you guys have a history of hiring ex-UGa people anyway?? Trust me, you can have that old ex Gator AD we have!! I will say this though: Gus actually seems to be ok as an HC. I wouldn't give up on him just yet. Don't know what to tell you about Pearl though.

Actually it is Georgia that has a habit of hiring Auburn men. Dean Foy, Vince Dooley, and Erskine Russell were all our guys. We got Pat Dye in return.

Pat Dye for Vince Dooley wasn't too bad of a swap was it? My memory is hazy though, lol
