LT fan's thoughts on game vs. South Carolina - TTT - 09-18-2017 12:52 PM

What are your thoughts? I imagine they will prob. have the gamecocks favored -13.5

Think itll be around 10.

I feel like this game can be like Arkansas last year, hopefully with a better outcome.

very good chance to get a p5 scalp

I don't think we are there yet. I expect a much cleaner effort than MSU though. Much more like WKU. Not awe inspiring, but I don't think it will get out of hand like MSU did. I don't think we improve enough to win this one though. Hope I am wrong.

It really should be a good opportunity to pick up a SEC scalp, but I still think we need significant improvement to get it done. I expect this will be fairly low scoring like WKU as neither offense is particularly impressive. If our offense picked up enough confidence and protects the football we might sneak in enough big plays to get it done.

If this is at South Carolina, they will have to overcome the SEC refs also unless it was in the contract to have CUSA refs....Well, after seeing the CUSA refs at work in our game at Monroe this weekend, I'll take the SEC refs....

My mom is from Columbia and both my Uncles are on high alert in the Palmetto State this weekend. I would have said last week we were dead in the water, but Miss State is legit and USC stumbled mightily against Kentucky while also losing their best player for the season. We could definitely sneak in there and grab one but it is gonna take much better play than what we saw this week, plus their defense good.

The line has moved down to about 8.

We could catch South Carolina in a bit of a hangover/looking forward mode. Classic trap game. They have played 2 straight conference games and will get right back into it next weekend. Them losing there best player may also create a situation were they try a lot of new things. Ultimately they are better than Tech so I give them the edge but the stars are lining up. We have to execute in the red zone and limit turnovers or preferably win that battle. Can't give up any non offensive TDs either.

I wasn't overly impressed with Kentucky. And they went into Columbia and handled the Gamecocks. This is a game that La Tech can win, but it won't be easy and they will probably have to catch a break or two. But, there is no doubt that USCe is beatable.

Certainly. But Skip Holtz Tech teams have not shown the ability to beat/finish p5 schools or big games in conference. See USM last 2 years and CCGs. They are 8 pt favorites and I see them covering unless we are much better in the redzone and don't fumble. Both things we haven't been great at doing.

If Tech gets blown out, I'll be not only shocked, but they better have a real gut check.

Just look at the turnover margin for this one.

Tech is 0 or +1, they'll cover the spread or BARELY squeak out a win.

If Tech is -1 or worse, we'll lose by as much as SC desires.

What is blown out?? I could see us winning by 3 or losing by 17+. I just don't know what the WKU game meant. It was nice to get a win on the road against what has been the dominate program in our conference but that wasn't the same WKU. I hope our defense improving and the WKU 4th quarter wasn't an admiration.

RE: LT fan's thoughts on game vs. South Carolina - Dawgxas - 09-19-2017 01:37 PM

Probably a loss for Tech. SC is going to be hungry for a win and the coaching staff knows they need this to at least make a bowl

not sure if Skip will open up the playbook to go for a win here.
SC has to turn the ball over several times for us to have chance here.

It is an intriguing match up. USCe is down a WR and also their RT? (or LT...not sure). I see them wanting to get up early and run it at us. Honestly, we have one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the nation and I don't see Tech being worn down as most G5's would be. Our team needs to build on the WKU game. We will need to make plays and we have a recent history of playing terribly on the road vs SEC. I think we are due for a big win.

Plus their is some history with Skip and USCe, so hopefully he wants some revenge.

RE: LT fan's thoughts on game vs. South Carolina - pilot172000 - 09-19-2017 03:59 PM

USC lost Deebo Samuel who is a bad ass. They lost what many consider their coming out game for the SEC East and are either going to be motivated or mailing it in and looking past us. I pray its the latter and we shock the cocks in Columbia.

Can't forget that you have to beat the Zebras in a game like this against a down SEC school.

I'm not sure this LA Tech team can score enough points to beat South Carolina. We've got to score more the 21-23 points (our last two outings) to beat an SEC team on the road.

22 would have won it last year. Just depends on the type of game we find ourselves in. I would have guessed we'd need more to beat WKU as well.
