more lunacy....this time from the Dallas ISD - stinkfist - 09-18-2017 05:54 AM

might as well rename everything "rainbow dipshite high" and be done with it.....

just give everyone pinwheels, a cell phone, and gold stars......toss 'em all in a room and leave 'em there for 8 hrs....that's basically what the public system has become....

https://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/2017/09/17/sam-houston-ben-franklin-thomas-jefferson-among-dallas-isd-campuses-require-research-possible-name-changes

Quote:Dallas ISD is researching the histories of Ben Franklin, Sam Houston, Thomas Jefferson and 17 other historical figures, looking into whether their connections with slavery or the Confederacy should prompt reconsideration of their names on DISD campuses.

Last Thursday, DISD administration recommended changing the names of four schools honoring Confederate generals: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Albert Sidney Johnston and William L. Cabell elementary schools. During that discussion, it was mentioned that there is a much broader list of at least 21 names that bear further investigation, if trustees were compelled to do so.

"This was just a very quick review of looking at the biographies of the individuals," DISD chief of school leadership Stephanie Elizalde told trustees on Sept. 14. "And if there was any association with Confederacy — not making a judgment for or against — just if we saw Confederacy named in it, we then highlighted it. We are now in the process of doing a second [look]."

http://nypost.com/2017/09/17/why-the-statue-smashers-will-never-stop/

How about Fayettville, NC, named after Lafayette:

"Example: The Cumberland County school board in Fayetteville, NC, recently canceled an environmental program that used an image of the Marquis de Lafayette in its promotional materials. Why? Because Lafayette owned slaves.
Never mind that Lafayette had purchased the slaves in order to free them or that he was an avid abolitionist who had influenced George Washington to free his own slaves upon his death.
“It appears that by trying to be sensitive to part of the community, I was insensitive to another part,” said Interim Superintendent Tim Kinlaw, who was responsible for canceling the program. In a city actually named after the Marquis de Lafayette, it wasn’t sensitivity that caused the cancellation of the program, it was pure, industrial-grade ignorance."

Why don't they just name every school with a number. Don't they do that in New York City?

The only one's I see who are trying to change history or ignore it are the one's who are trying to tell everyone to get over slavery. As if it never really happened.

Just the first half of history, not the second.

Just the first half of history, not the second.

My focus was on Western Europe but I taught U.S. history from beginnings to 1877 for 13 years.

It's hilarious they use the word "research" in their official message.

Agree 100%. They are creating destructive behavior and pushing sympathetic people further away.

Yeah, all you need to do is open up an elementary history book or go down to the library in the biography section.

Sam Houston????? What a bunch of ignorant clowns! Unless they are closely tied in to MADD, there's not much you can say about Sam Houston.

If they attempt to remove this statue, then I'll start to be pissed...

No... Every school has a *NAME* and a *NUMBER*. Example Stuyvesant High School in NY is M475.

The solution here is to stop judging people in the past by Today's moral norms.

Did you pass high school history? Both halves?

It should be removed for being gaudy.

Not only did I pass both halves of high school history, I have a degree in history so while many on this forum claim to be the historian, I have the degree to prove it.
