UC- Miami (OH) extended to 2029 - bearcatfan - 09-11-2017 08:22 AM

I found this while checking out the Miami discussion board.

Sept. 11, 2017

A series that dates back to 1888 has now been extended. Miami University Athletics Director David Sayler and University of Cincinnati Director of Athletics Mike Bohn announced this morning (Sept. 11) that the series between the two schools will continue through 2029.

"One of the best aspects of college athletics is community - in that it brings people together and rivalry games with history play a large role in that,” said Sayler. “I am thankful to Mike Bohn for working with us on this and I am excited for the future of the series, including the games at Paul Brown Stadium where both schools will be partners in making those contests into feature events for all our great fans in and around the region to join in on."

Upcoming Series Dates
Sept. 16, 2017 at Miami
Sept. 8, 2018 at Paul Brown Stadium
Sept. 14, 2019 at Cincinnati
Sept. 19, 2020 at Miami
Sept. 4, 2021 at Cincinnati
Sept. 17, 2022 at Paul Brown Stadium
Sept. 16, 2023 at Cincinnati
Sept. 14, 2024 at Miami
Sept. 6, 2025 at Cincinnati
Sept. 19, 2026 at Paul Brown Stadium
Sept. 11, 2027 at Miami
Sept. 9, 2028 at Cincinnati
Sept. 8, 2029 at Miami

The extension includes five home games for both schools and three games at Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals. Miami will serve as the host institution for the 2018 and 2022 games at Paul Brown Stadium with UC as the host in 2026.

The series continues this Saturday, Sept. 16 at Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio at 8 p.m. It will be the 122nd meeting between the two schools with Miami holding a 59-55-7 all-time series advantage over the Bearcats. Of the 121 meetings, 53 have been decided by seven points or less.

Interesting. Thirteen years of consecutive play with only five visits to Oxford. I like this.

While it's not the rivalry it once was, this alignment of game locations heavily favors UC. Despite Miami's recent struggles it has remained one of our best attended games at either Nippert or Paul Brown. And a road trip to Oxford is short and simple. Our fan turnout at Miami in recent years has made it no worse than a neutral site game for UC.

Throw out whatever might happen on the field this Saturday, I expect UC to continue to dominate the series as CLF leads UC back to the level of success we enjoyed most of the past decade.

I am curious to see how the money works itself out. Are the Bearcats and Redhawks splitting the rent and other costs when the game is played at PBS? Will the Bengals and the county give the two school a break on the rent like they did for UC in 2014? Are the two schools going to split the revenue earned from this game?

-Solves the 3 OOC road games dilemma in 2019. now....
08/31 - UCLA
09/07 - at Ohio State
09/14 - Miami (OH)
09/28 - at Marshall

- This game drew 42,000 to PBS in 2014
- Less trips to Oxford

Seems like a win .

I like the extension. I know some people don't get excited for games against Miami, but it is basically the only "rivalry" we have left, and it has a lot of tradition.

The announcement is now on gobearcats.com.

That's a good deal...no longer a straight home and home, and we only play in Miami twice until 2026. That schedule looks much less small time that a strict home and home with a MAC team.

This is just another notch...I think Bohn has been doing excellent work with the hiring process, supporting the programs, and getting some very good series on the books for all sports.

It helped that the game was during Oktoberfest, and it appears that two out of three of the games scheduled in PBS will be during the same weekend the event traditionally takes place.

At least 4 or 5 of those games are early enough that they may be our first game of the season. I was just thinking yesterday that it would be a great idea to replace our typical FCS warm up game with Miami... they're a stronger opponent on paper, still provide a warm up game, and let us continue the oldest active rivalry in college football without deterring potential P5 landing spots.

The fact that only 5 of 13 are in Oxford also bodes well for us, as it is another clear indication that the 2 programs are on different levels now. This is great news IMO. Nice job, Mike.

FWIW...

Miami will serve as the host institution for the 2018 and 2022 games at Paul Brown Stadium with UC as the host in 2026.

Makes sense...that's the only way they would agree to giving up the only games that make money on their home schedule ever year. I'm ok with that.

RE: UC- Miami (OH) extended to 2029 - doss2 - 09-11-2017 09:44 AM

So only 2026 might be considered part of the "Season Ticket Packages"?

I will go to the games but I don't want to pay for Nippert Club and get PBS Club as they are not comparable.

RE: UC- Miami (OH) extended to 2029 - The T-Shirt - 09-11-2017 10:09 AM

I think this was for the best for this rivalry. It is a FAR better solution than calling the whole thing off like more than a few have wanted. They give up more of their "home" games to be down here than we do, while we get the actual home field advantage (at least as much of one as PBS can provide, though 11k students helps). From a perception standpoint, the less we visit Oxford and a MAC program the better, but we keep our last remaining rivalry intact for another decade.

Agreed with the post on the other page, props to Bohn for making this happen, the guy is doing a great job.

RE: UC- Miami (OH) extended to 2029 - doss2 - 09-11-2017 11:25 AM

Had UC ended the series who would be hurt? Bohn had a full house against a pair of 9's

RE: UC- Miami (OH) extended to 2029 - bearcatmark - 09-11-2017 11:32 AM

This is an FBS game, UC always has on the schedule, that will always draw well. UC has no reason to ditch the game. People act like UC has their pick of any team out there to play. I think this is a good deal for UC and I don't seen any reason to end the series while UC plays in the AAC.

RE: UC- Miami (OH) extended to 2029 - djtothemoney - 09-11-2017 12:08 PM

I'm totally on board with this. It's a creative solution to the issue of going up to Oxford every year. It also keeps us from playing a BUY game every year.

That may be the only football game played in PBS in 2026 .

Yep, and I suspect that the San Diego/ San Antonio/ Las Vegas Bengals will win a Super Bowl in short order.

Will we be renting PBS from FC Cincinnati in 2026?
