2017 Pre-Season Camp Talk - BearcatJerry - 08-07-2017 10:13 PM

I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread launched yet to discuss the pre-season camp stuff...

So.
Here!

RE: 2017 Pre-Season Camp Talk - BearcatJerry - 08-07-2017 10:15 PM

So, I saw this on "Facebook"... Hope it copies ok:

A brief video from Camp Higher Ground. What really caught me was Coach Fickell shouting, "Too high! Too high!" in tackling drills.

YES!
"TOO HIGH!"
Thank God!

Old hammerin hank and the tackle high philosophy. On camp notes, I was surprised to hear that Potts and jerrel are making a go at the two deep. They must be really talented.

Sounds like the new staff is also high on Potts, and Potts isn't going too high.

VIDEO DUMP:

Fickell Day 9: https://youtu.be/QraV24ZiAoA

Copeland Day 9: https://youtu.be/t4dlI_R5kbg

Denbrock Day 9: https://youtu.be/4Tlic_89C7I

Cunningham Day 8: https://youtu.be/U73h6KJ6HZY

Recap Day 8: https://youtu.be/zGefoFPYkK0

All the videos should match what I described them as, but I'm on mobile and rushed so they may be jumbled. There are more videos that stretch to the beginning of camp, these are just the latest.

Great video dump - thanks
I really enjoyed watching Copeland's face light up when he talked about getting after the quarterback. I remember sitting in the stands at Purdue, and watching the DL spread out to prevent quarterback scrambles - and I thought "one of you guys needs to actually rush the QB." It didn't happen all that often last year, and a good scrambling QB can still break through good spacing if you give him time.

Things should be a little better this year.

Speaking of linebackers, good article from Bill Koch talking about Perry Young and the depth at the position group.

Thanks for the videos. I just watched Coach Ficks one and the thing that I liked the most is that he lost his voice during the practice. So glad to see that out of the Head Coach.

Prayers for our previous coach, who developed medial epicondylitis during his tenure here.

Heard Chad/Game Time 21 on with Lance today. Sounds like we have good options in the short to mid-range passing game but don't have that guy to stretch the field vertically. I made the analogy before in another thread but I wonder if this offense will mirror the 2012 squad: good rushing attack; nice slot receiver (Lewis 2017 /McClung in 2012), but no playmaker to take it over the top. In 2012 our biggest playmaker was actually our TE (Kelce).

Nice to hear Mike Warren has been impressive and Jarrell Ehite is getting reps with the first unit at LB.

I think you forgot to include his battles with narcolepsy and somnambulism.

And we like people who like hitting people on our football team. Love for this kid to have a big year. Cool that Broughton and Copeland are Juniors.

There was a time when we had Wolfe, Hughes and Stewart on the same line. I miss that defense, even if the secondary wasn't that great.

That group was nasty. Wolfe was a beast. Broughton and Copeland together in the middle provides stability on the line and opens things up for others on the dee to help make plays. What is it about DT's that we love? There's just something about a big, dirty, sweaty dude with a mauled up helmet down in the trenches trying to collapse the pocket or break thru the line to make a play.
