Predictions for primetime OOC games on ACC Network to help draw viewers 2019/20 - msm96wolf - 07-10-2017 10:44 AM

I know the conference schedules need to come out but just looking at the OOC there good be some decent games shown on the ACC network if the first month. I think the ACCN will try to have at least one ND game and one P5 vs P5 non conference game on in the first month. Just killing time during this dead period.

2019
08/31 - East Carolina vs NCSU (Believe it or not, I think it draws a bunch of AAC viewers)
09/07 - USF vs GT (See ECU vs NCSU)
09/14 - North Carolina vs Wake (non-ACC game verse two ACC teams)
09/21 - Charlotte vs Clemson

2020
09/05 - Tulane vs Wake (See ECU vs NCSU)
09/12 - Mississippi State VS NCSU (ACC vs SEC need I say more)
09/19 - UCF vs GT (See ECU vs NCSU)
09/26 - East Carolina vs VT (See ECU vs NCSU)
11/09 - Notre Dame vs DUKE (ND and late season)

Also teams still needing games in kinda surprised about Miami in 2019 and the number of teams in 2020.

2019
FSU
GT
MIA (3)

2020
FSU
Clemson
NCSU
SYC (2)
GT
MIA (2)
UNC (2)
Pitt
UVA

Very reasonable list of games - the kind of games you see on the SEC Network.

Talk around here is the ACC has talked to Clemson about moving the Wofford game to later in the season and opening the 2019 season on Thursday night against GT.

The biggest hurdle there is the fact that Clemson doesn't do Thursday night games because of the disruption involved.

So the ACC wants to serve up one of its signature rivalries ..... as a Thursday season opener?

Ooooooooookay.......

Makes sense... Guarantees carriage in GA and SC, and no game the week before so it doesn't put either team at a disadvantage.

SEC Network launched with Texas A+M vs S Carolina... On a Thursday night.

Too bad SU's series with Army doesn't begin until 2023. That would be a good match-up for the ACCN in New York state at the very least.

Wonder if the ACCN will result in future SU OOC games against the likes of WVU Rutgers, Maryland, and UConn as well as Army?

Cheers,
Neil

We've secretly replaced your classic heated rivalry game with Folgers crystals. Let's see if anybody notices the difference.

LOL. You have a point, but consider...
...we're talking ACC network, not Raycom
...Thursday night, not Saturday at noon
...week one, so no NFL

Expect better than usual games on the ACCN in 2019

Probably so... I've heard people question if the ACCN would get full distribution in Georgia (South Carolina was a slam dunk when Clemson football started winning consistently about 5 years ago).

I guess I'm not sure what's the problem with this game (if any) being used to kick off the ACC Network. No doubt it will benefit from the added hype.

With the stadium expansion to 65k do you think y'all could squeeze 70k in for that game?

It's spelled out in the post by GTS that you quoted. In a conference that has a huge lack of honest to God real rivalries because of it's mix of newness combined with the utter lack of effort put into football by all but one of the legacy members and two of the long-term members and the arbitrary divisions it's wasting your best rivalry on opening weekend for minimal gain. Add in the fact that holding a Thursday night game means having to cancel classes for at least part of the day (and after the absolute chaos trying to hold classes half a day then get the reserved lots cleared for tailgaters by 2 PM back in '13 I wouldn't bet against classes being cancelled all day if the ACC ever subjects us to hosting a Thursday night game again) and it's simply not worth it, especially when you are using one of your two best football properties to try and sell the network. You didn't see Alabama vs Ole Miss or LSU vs Florida open the SEC Network did you? No..it was middle of the West aTm vs middle of the East South Carowhina.

At least 70K perhaps more. I would look for that game to set attendance records that won't be broken until the final expansion to 80K.

Louisville is a very catholic city with the 2nd largest archdiocese in the country behind Boston. Notre Dame is probably the 2nd most popular college football team in the city behind UofL.

Next to the Inaugural ACC Miami game when Louisville joined back in 2014, I can't remember a more anticipated home opener.

I get it. A more appropriate game (if it must be a cross-division match-up) would be Virginia/Louisville.

That said, unless GA Tech is better than expected that year, GT/Clemson wasn't going to get a better TV slot than this, and if you're ever going to host a Thursday night, opening weekend is the time to do it.

RE: Predictions for primetime OOC games on ACC Network to help draw viewers 2019/20 - H.U.S.T.L.E. - 07-11-2017 07:24 AM

I guess I can understand why Clemson & GT fans would be annoyed, but I don't get the impression that the Clemson/GT rivalry game resonates on a national stage. It's certainly historically important to the ACC and the schools involved, but that doesn't always translate to casual interest.

I do think it's the type of game that's perfect for the inaugural ACC Network lineup though - you get two fanbases who deeply care about the rivalry to help build interest in the platform right out of the gate.
