Week 1 CFB point spreads released - ejd_5277 - 05-26-2017 03:29 AM

South Point in Las Vegas has released the Week 1 spreads for the upcoming season.

We opened as 19 point underdogs at USC on September 2. It got bet to 20.5 almost instantaneously. I expect it to close somewhere in the low 20's.

Some other games of note:

Minnesota (-31) vs. Buffalo
EMU (-12.5) vs. Charlotte
NIU (-2) vs. Boston College
MSU (-18) vs. Bowling Green
Miami-OH (-8.5) at Marshall
Clemson (-40) vs. Kent State
Penn State (-39) vs. Akron
Illinois (-11) vs. Ball State
Michigan (-3) vs. Florida in Arlington, TX.

As an aside, Brent Musberger has retired from play-by-play work and is now the lead on-air talent for this VSIN sports betting radio network linked to above.

I would take Ball State.

NIU's favored over BC? Hope they win, but a bit of a surprise.

RE: Week 1 CFB point spreads released - ejd_5277 - 05-26-2017 01:42 PM

Remember that's a home game for NIU.

I would make BC 3 point chalk on a neutral field.

I was more surprised by Miami giving up 8.5 at Marshall. Miami is obviously fast improving, but that seems a little steep.

Eastern Michigan as a double digit favorite...Is this real life?

I'd take Boston College, Bowling Green, Akron, and Ball State.

If WMU finishes within three touchdowns of USC, and flies home injury free, I will be pleased.

I expect the Broncos to be competitive the following week at East Lansing and possibly win. However, I have no such illusions for USC.

My only hope for the USC game is we leave that game with an established starting QB. Whether it's Flacco or Wassink, I want to go into the State game with a confident QB.

I hope we win, and that our QB walks off the field with a cocky swagger, and two hot USC cheerleaders on his arms.

Todd, is that you?

They are going to go to USC and make everyone realize that Jarvion Franklin is the Heisman Candidate. Not Sam Darnold. Who has a dumb last name.

Depends on how good Marshall is. I would expect Miami to be the favorite -- but if Marshall is firmly expected to bounce back well this year VS last, yeah, 8.5pts seems steep in a rivalry.

I know. At first glance, it seems about as absurd as WMU making the Cotton Bowl last year as an undefeated team. However, it is Charlotte -- who is new to the FBS, and did lose at home to EMU by 18 last year early in the season, and went 4-8. This one's in Emoo territory, so I would expect they should have a solid advantage.

Quote:If WMU finishes within three touchdowns of USC, and flies home injury free, I will be pleased.

Same here. 22pts seems like a fair pt spread. If we can beat the spread under our 1st game with our new coaching staff + new QB & WRs -- I'll be Happy. USC is rightfully assumed to be going to the Final Four this year, with the assumption to Crush any 7-5 B1G team.

Took the words right out of my mouth, while envisioning putting my little paddle in the mouths of the cheerleaders...!

Yeah, but like my fantasy with the USC cheerleaders -- I don't think that's going to happen. I think if we have an impressive game -- which will rely on our passing game being sufficient -- our running game will look Truly "P5" and not "mid major" when facing the swarm of a stellar USC team in "their year". That's the best I think one can actually Hope for.

Clemson (-40) vs. Kent State

At least one of these is going to go the MAC's way.

If I had a few extra bucks I would bet on our Broncos to beat that spread. Bogan is going to have 2 runs of over 50 yards when USC starts adjusting to our bubble screens to Bellamy and Eskridge.

And Sam Darnold...go ahead and test Phillips. It will be a short Heisman candidacy.

Annnnd they have Stanford the next week. They better look past us as 20-point favorites. 07-coffee3

They just announced some game times for TV games, game vs Chimps is at 8:00 PM on ESPN2.......ouch, attendance just got worse, especially if the weather is bad, students will just stay in the dorm and watch the game

Two thumbs up for this!

I'm a WMU buyer at +21.5 or higher.

Not touching anything lower than that.

WMU v. USC didn't get an ESPN slot. Just PAC 12 Network. I get that we likely aren't a Cotton Bowl team again, but you'd think that matchup would peak TV interest. Booo....

RE: Week 1 CFB point spreads released - tayle's mullet - 06-01-2017 12:43 PM

Found this on a USC message board:
"Western Michigan. While the departure of Fleck and Davis make a difference, a 13-1 team is more than a WR. And the team will have a chip on its shoulder about being treated like a second class citizen in 2016. It’s at the Coliseum but USC starts slow and the unit that always takes the longest to gel is the o-line where USC is least experienced. Good to very good chance USC opens with a loss that dooms their season in the eyes of voters. No one at USC knew Western Michigan would be this strong when the game was scheduled, or they would have scheduled it later on the year. Trouble. You’re in for a hangover on September 4. USC loses 37-32."
