Sounds like ESPN just dumped SB for Frisco bowl - msm96wolf - 05-23-2017 04:31 PM

Gotta think they are trying to find BYU a spot. Hope SB gets something in return. http://www.fbschedules.com/2017/05/frisco-bowl-officially-announced-replaces-miami-beach-bowl/

Think so. BYU doesn't have a bowl tie this year.

No I herd Karl say in one of his radio interviews that the whole bowl rotation idea floated for Miami, Bahamas, New Orleans and others died not long after it was proposed. So the Belt was never in the running for Miami/Frisco Bowl unless they need an at large team.

Sun Belt Bowls are set with New Orleans, Mobile, Montgomery, Orlando and Arizona.

We've been talking about this in Jonesboro for a couple weeks. When the original Miami Bowl contract was agreed too, it had been planned that the Sun Belt would trade New Orleans for Miami in 2017 and 2019 to give Tulane a chance to have access to the bowl if they were eligible.

It was agreed to since to scrap any trade offs among the G5 with bowls. For some reason, the AAC failed to edit that on its website and still listed the Sun Belt as a partner in Miami in 2017. Its a very similar reason as to why we're not in Bahamas this year despite the fact the original agreement called for us to rotate with the MAC there. (No big loss honestly)

I think that since this is a new bowl, the Miami Bowl ties and contracts are now voided. The AAC signed on as the anchor for the Frisco bowl and leaving the other side as at-large....at least till the next bowl cycle comes up.

Really doesn't matter.
Based on the past two years, odds are there will be one more open spot for a team than there are bowl eligible teams and ESPN is unlikely to send a leftover P5, a military academy, or BYU to Frisco when any of them will likely be able to sell more tickets than the stadium holds. Odds are if looks that one of them is falling to Frisco, they will use that team to fill another ESPN bowl and find a team elsewhere.

Good. We needed more bowls in Alabama anyway.

This makes me feel better about Texas State missing out on a Texas Sun Belt bowl. Now it doesn't matter
