2017 Non-Conference Football Thread - cmett003 - 03-28-2017 10:41 AM

Looks like across the board all C-USA teams are stepping up in scheduling. This is a list of C-USA teams playing P5 and AAC teams in 2017. (Army is also in this list)

East
Charlotte - at Kansas State
FIU - at UCF, at Indiana, home vs Tulane
FAU - home vs Navy, at Wisconson
Marshall - at NC State, at Cincinatti
MTSU - home vs Vanderbilt, at Syracuse, at Minnesota
ODU - home vs UNC, at Virginia Tech
WKU - at Illinois, at Vanderbilt

West
La Tech - home vs Miss State, at South Carolina
North Texas - at SMU, at Iowa, home vs Army
Rice - Neutral site vs Stanford, at Houston, at Pittsburgh, home vs Army
Southern Miss - home vs Kentucky, at Tennessee
UAB - at Florida
UTEP - at Oklahoma, at Army, home vs Arizona
UTSA - home vs Houston, at Baylor

First comes scheduling, next comes winning a fair share of these games.

If you're going to include G5 teams then include them all.

RE: 2017 Non-Conference Football Thread - va-eagle - 03-28-2017 11:23 AM

Fixed it. I'm not sure teams are stepping up their OOC schedule. I think it is a letdown to have just one P5 team scheduled, but I do recognize that scheduling is getting more difficult. I would predict us going 4 of 22.

I can't wait to go 9-3, finish second in the East, and play in a bowl game on Mars.

FWIW, 2 of my 4 P5 win predictions are by MT.

Didnt feel like wasting my time with Sunbelt, MW and MAC teams.

Don't tell me you believe in that p6 nonsense.

I think NT will go 3-1 in OOC games. Lamar should be a given (better be, anyway), and I really believe we can and will beat SMU and Army. Iowa is probably a sizable loss.

No I just consider the AAC to be a better conference that C-USA right now. I never said anything about P6. The P5 and AAC teams were the most note worthy and Army just kept showing up.

Last season every G5 conference was better than CUSA. During bowl season CUSA beat them in head to head matchups. The only two bowl wins the AAC had were against teams with an overall losing record.

You mean to tell me that our game vs. the University of Louisiana Warhawks isn't important?!?

I see Tech and MTSU winning all of their OOC games. They should be favored in all of them.

Agreed. The best CUSA teams could beat the best AAC teams on any given year.

Old Dominion will split vs VT and UNC. Just not sure which team they will beat. Probably beat UNC and lose at VT

RE: 2017 Non-Conference Football Thread - UNT15 - 03-28-2017 02:56 PM

CUSA teams hosting 5 P5's this year (5 P4's if you throw out weakest link B12)

As popular as it is to hate on SEC scheduling, as far as CUSA is concerned - the SEC is willing to go on the road.

- 3 SEC: Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Kentucky
- 1 ACC: UNC
- 1 P12: Arizona

RE: 2017 Non-Conference Football Thread - MinerInWisconsin - 03-28-2017 03:38 PM

10. UTEP
FBSchedules ranks UTEP's OOC schedule 10th toughest in the nation. No one else in C-USA in their top 11.

"2017 Non-Conference Opponents: at (8) Oklahoma, Arizona, at New Mexico State, at Army

What gives UTEP the edge over South Alabama in schedule strength is twofold. First, it gets the toughest opponent – the Sooners – on the road and next it doesn’t have a FCS team on its 2017 slate.

The Miners doubled-up on Power opponents as recently as 2015 when they suffered losses at (18) Arkansas and at Texas Tech. Their last win over a school that is currently in a Power conference was in 1992 when they beat Utah (then in the WAC). Their most recent win over a ranked team was in 2009 when they upset (12) Houston 58-41."

UTEP OOC ranks 10th

I'll be watching the UTEP@OU game very carefully. Tulane makes the journey to Norman just a couple of weeks later.

Will Cuiellette be the starting QB for Tulane this year?

Yeah, I hope to watch it too and not have to turn away in horror. 03-puke

5 home games vs P5 teams, plus a neutral site game. Really need to capitalize on these opportunities!

I think Tech should be able to take #FailState at home. Less confident about South Carolina, who gave USF more of a game than I expected in bowl season. Winning isn't out of the question, but I don't expect to be favored unless we're 3-0 going in, and even that's a stretch.
