Another good one: "I am 100% certain that they will not give him enough time. If four NCAA Tournaments in 6 years isn't, I don't know what is."

I have a question...

With the sooner than later exit of Yow as AD, wouldn't that further limit the grace period he's given there? Am I wrong or do the ADs typically short stick their predecessors' picks and put their own in place?

I really think his only chance of making it there is somehow getting them to a Final Four in three years, and then he'd buy himself 3-4 more years before he'd be gone if he hasn't won a NCAA championship.

I honestly think an ACC title and wins over UNC or Duke would buy him time. I don't think a national title is a must. But if he can win an ACC title and beat those two teams that would help with the "red headed Step child" image.

Yows leaving is why he got a 6 year guaranteed contract

For anyone interested, Coach penned a letter published in today's Star News. Alex has posted it in full and an image of it on the StarNews Dub Hub Facebook account.

With the way he committed, and Keatts connection to Hargrave, this is probably the least surprising development. Still sucks, but not surprising.

Maybe he can go to VCU. They need somebody that can shoot from what I could see. UNCW should be good at WG/WF regardless so perhaps the new coach should go after a big now.

We need to lock down a coach this week before the defections become and avalanche.

Exactly why I was worried about our progress thus far.

Despite our anxiety, a quiet search is still the best. Our search last time took three weeks.

That's BS i hope he lands at less of a school. The least he could do is see how the coaching search plays out, and If i was UNCW, i don't release him before i know where he's going! I hope he lands somewhere we play, at home preferably :)

RE: Keatts to NC State - Hawksfan - 03-20-2017 11:54 PM

Reopening his recruitment doesn't necessarily mean he is gone right? It just means he wants to reevaluate the the situation. I don't think you can hold that against him if he goes somewhere else sure but not just for reopening.

Probably shouldn't stick my head in, but...

I think it's hard to criticize High School kids too much when they reconsider their options after an adult that pulled them in leaves for greener pastures.

Whether we like it or not, kids are often committing to a coach, not a school. This is a big decision for these kids and I think it's pretty unfair to be ok with the coach leaving, but the kid shouldn't take a second look.

Now, I say this knowing that I have a lot of animosity towards Elijah Pemberton. But he backed out of a verbal with W&M to go to Hofstra with no coaching changes. IMO, that's a totally different story.

I think i'd be more ok if he bailed after we select a coach if it wasn't to his liking.

I don't disagree with you at all. Personally, I understand recruits backing out for the reason you stated above. It's a difficult process, but in the end, ALL of the players are more or less entitled to go where they feel provides them the best opportunity as students and as athletes for the next step in life, be it a business profession or sports.

UNCW will survive. We have before, and we will again.

RE: Keatts to NC State - bricksnivy - 03-21-2017 11:02 AM

NCAA sucks, and this is Hughes' only chance to control the process. I can't hold it against him if he moves on elsewhere, and I'll wish him nothing the best. Hopefully, we make a great hire and he finds his way back here.
