He played limited minutes.

And did not look particularly effective when he did.

RE: where is quad - ctipton - 02-18-2017 10:52 PM

The only time, at least that I can tell, that Quad feels natural is when he is shooting. He is completely lost on defense, and partially lost on offense. I am not a Quad fan, but I feel sorry for him when he is out there for 1-2 minutes, screws something up and is jerked out of the game immediately. He must be as embarrassed as those of us are for him.

I feel bad for the guy. He got put in the second time today, got a foul almost immediately, and then a media timeout was called and while his team was huddling on the floor he immediately walked to the outside end of the bench, looking completely dejected like he knew he did something wrong, and was there by his lonesome until he finally meandered back to the huddle several seconds later. Obvious confidence issues, and Cronin's brand of basketball isn't clicking for him thus far.

It's a shame. He's got a great shot and has talent. His mental game just isn't anywhere close to where it needs to be. I still appreciate his representation of UC and am glad he's getting an education here.

How many minutes did he and the reserves get?

I would transfer if I were him to a lesser program where he could use his last year of eligibility as a star and have some fun.

RE: where is quad - BeerCat - 02-19-2017 08:06 AM

I think Mick really needs to challenge him this offseason. He needs to change his mentality or he really has no business being on the team. His attitude is terrible to watch. As Ctip mentioned it's uncomfortable for everyone involved, imagine how his teammates feel.

It's well past sh*t or get off the pot time for Quad.

I legit feel bad for the kid. With his size and ability to shoot, he would be much better off at a low major. He continually looks like "one of these things is not like the others" out there.

Well put. It's not like the guy doesn't try. Makes it more enjoyable to watch moments like the Tulane game when he went nuts, with Kyle and Gary shelved with "foul" trouble.

That's what's so frustrating. He could be such a weapon.

Take it easy. He is "The Big Q" He will bust out again. The path to glory is in The Big Q's hands.

I am really heartened to see how much support there is for Q on this board. I agree with everything you all have written. I saw him put his warm up on before the huddle yesterday and felt so badly for him. He knew he would get the hook before he got it.

He seems like a good kid, with some basketball talent who is either in over his head or under the wrong coach to bring out the best in him. He looks so dejected when he does something wrong.

Watching him succeed at Tulane was awesome. I thought "this will be a game he can tell his grandkids about someday.

Hoping he has more Tulanes.

Me too. He seems like an ordinary kid in a high pressured bad spot. I remember last year, there was a poster that saw him playing on a hoverboard before a game. He is not the type that acts too cool to have fun. I wish him success.

Has anyone ever seen him smile?

I wonder what he calls fun.

RE: where is quad - jarr - 02-19-2017 10:14 AM

Some times I think Mick tries too hard to fit a square peg in a round hole. He gets overly obsessive with everyone conforming to the way he wants to play, instead of using the players he has to their strengths.

Quad is a perfect example. If he is in the game against better competition, we should not be running complicated match up zone or man to man defenses. He would be better suited for a simpler defense that can hide his weaknesses. Same thing on offense He can be effective at times in pick and roll plays on offense. He also has a nice touch facing the basket. Unfortunately I don't think he'll ever be the type of player Mick wants him to be.

I want nothing more than every Bearcat to succeed. When I did a dinner with the team he sat at my table. Was incredibly respectful and a very nice kid. I'm really pulling for him.

There's a certain amount of conforming that a team needs to do to mold its leader's will and vision. (Think army heading into battle need to be of one mind. Discipline/obedience is required.)

However the best leaders get their teams to buy into their vision/goal but also learn the strengths and weaknesses of each person under their command and know how to get the most out of them, putting them in a position to use their strengths while finding ways to hide their deficiencies.

This is where Mick needs growth. But he is only 45 and hopefully is learning this.

As a group of fans, let's cheer loudly for Q and show him support and love.

I agree there us a balance between not having a clear vision and having a too narrow minded vision. As you said, hopefully this is saidometjing Mick can grow at. Not every player is going to be a defensive stopper. That doesn't mean they can't contribute. He needs to find ways to hide Quad's lack of quickness. Quad needs to become better mentally, he is trying to do too much out there and over thinking.
