Yes. Louisville will schedule Liberty. UofL and Liberty have already faced each other in several NCAA and Club sports in the past few years. There is no reason they wouldn't and recent history saying they would.

I said never.

This has more to do with our scheduling philosophy playing Midwest/East Coast teams in the non-conference than anything else. The only private schools we put on the schedule are Northwestern and Boston College.

We've done Louisiana, UNT and Florida Atlantic for recruiting but that is as low as we will go.

I didn't answer. Never is a long time, but I don't see USA doing so for a variety of reasons, most notably a lack of upside for USA. We don't recruit South Central Virginia. Liberty probably wants to recruit South Alabama. Either way, USA doesn't really have any space on our schedule for quite some time. We only have home games available (which we will probably fill with lower end FCS programs in payday games) until 2023.

Not anytime soon, but never is a long time.
With that said I do hope they do well.

Really doubt it. I don't see a reason to. They would probably want a home-and-home deal and we don't recruit in that region so there's no benefit over playing a Sun Belt or C-USA team in areas where our coaches have recruiting connections.

RE: Poll - Will your school schedule Liberty? - Kaplony - 02-16-2017 10:40 PM

We probably will but it will be a home game only because we can afford it.

Honestly anybody from Georgia through the NE would be stupid not to. I went to the semifinals of the Big South baseball tournament in Lexington, SC last year and Liberty brought a pretty good crowd for a Friday afternoon baseball game. If they'll travel like that for baseball I'd love to see what they would bring to a football game.

It seems like the priority in the MAC is to schedule P5 teams at home if possible or payday games. Then look at Army, UMass, BYU, MWC or AAC.

If desperate then an SBC/CUSA school. Some of the SBC/CUSA at the bottom of the food chain will have to resort to Liberty. New Mexico State maybe.

NCSU and the rest of the ACC will be looking for Home games. Look for schools like UVA,BC, Wake and Duke do 2 for 1 games. Marshall, ODU, Coastal, App and Charlotte will probably do home and home. I would not be surprised if BYU tries to help Liberty as well with some scheduling.

RE: Poll - Will your school schedule Liberty? - chidave - 02-16-2017 11:04 PM

Lynchburg is only 3.5 hours from Charlotte, think it will happen.

RE: Poll - Will your school schedule Liberty? - AppfanInCAAland - 02-16-2017 11:30 PM

they are already App State's third most common non-conference opponent after Wake Forest and JMU so I assume they will be on the schedule again some day.

I'm sure Alabama will probably host them in the second week of some upcoming season. I could see Kentucky hosting them too.

RE: Poll - Will your school schedule Liberty? - ohio1317 - 02-17-2017 09:01 AM

I would hope there would be no objections to scheduling them, but obviously it would be home games only.

RE: Poll - Will your school schedule Liberty? - Georgia_Power_Company - 02-17-2017 09:12 AM

Georgia Southern will most likely be open to a H&H even if some of our fans gripe about it.

RE: Poll - Will your school schedule Liberty? - BearcatJerry - 02-17-2017 09:16 AM

First, I'm only a fan... I have no control over whom The University of Cincinnati schedules, but...

I doubt we ever play Liberty outside of a bowl fluke... There's no reason to.

I know NCSU need a FBS home only games in 2020, 2021 & 2023. NCSU should jump on 2020 and 2023. Before anyone says get rid of the FCS games, I agree whole heartedly. As long as the SEC keeps them, the ACC will. Some schools are now following the SEC model of playing the FCS game the next to last game of the season. That is another topic.

NCSU 2020
09/05 - Delaware
09/12 - Mississippi State
TBA - at Troy
Sign Liberty for Home game.

NCSU 2023
09/02 - VMI
09/23 - at UConn
TBA - Notre Dame
Sign Liberty for Home game.

I think you will see many larger ACC schools go to the following scheduling format unless a nine game schedule happens.

FCS warm up game (Rather it be FBS but doubt that will change)
Lower FBS Home Game
P5(H)/P5(A)
FBS(A)/FBS(H) (Regional G5 Matchup) I think you will see UNC and NCSU do the following with H and Away

Not like Liberty has schools refusing to play them.

Year FBS Opponent Opponent's Conference
2016 SMU American (West)
2016 Virginia Tech ACC
2015 Georgia State Sun Belt
2015 West Virginia Big 12
2014 Appalachian State Sunbelt
2014 North Carolina ACC
2013 Old Dominion Independent
2013 Kent State MAC (East)
2012 Wake Forest ACC (Atlantic)
2011 North Carolina State ACC (Atlantic)
2010 Ball State MAC (West)
2009 West Virginia Big East
2007 Toledo MAC (West)
2006 Wake Forest ACC (Atlantic)
2005 Connecticut Big East
2004 Kent State MAC (East)
2003 Bowling Green MAC (West)
2003 Toledo MAC (West)
2002 Akron MAC (East)
2002 UCF MAC (East)
2001 South Florida Independent
2001 UCF Independent
1999 Marshall MAC (East)
1992 Northern Illinois Independent
1989 Eastern Michigan Mid-American Conference

I wouldn't be surprised if Coastal and Liberty form a yearly game. I doubt any SEC or ACC school will refuse to play them and Liberty will be glad to undercut other G5 teams for the cannon fodder games. Already have Wake, Baylor and Va Tech. on future schedules.

RE: Poll - Will your school schedule Liberty? - CitrusUCF - 02-17-2017 10:20 AM

We're 8-3 against Liberty. We played them regularly during our D-2 and 1-AA days, and we have had them for buy games twice in 1-A.

RE: Poll - Will your school schedule Liberty? - mikeinsec127 - 02-17-2017 11:04 AM

If for some reason Rutgers did play Liberty; I could only think it would be a one-and-done home game to fill a scheduling hole.

Agreed, although I could see us buying a home game from them if the stars aligned.

I could see us doing a 2-for-1 with UMass (in theory) because UMass is a desirable location that we try to recruit students from and because they have a good name brand in basketball.

But Liberty has none of those advantages. Even most of the Sun Belt schools are more desirable for us to play an away game at. And since the mid-70s we've only played at one Sun Belt school (at Arkansas State in 1998 - and oddly enough it was without a return game).
