Tubby expects to hear from NCAA any day now on their appeal for his eligibility. Per our new beat writer.

Is that normal people "any day now" or NCAA "any day now?"

Well that's both funny and a great question? I wish I could answer your question, but I guess we are about to hear, maybe before the Houston game. I hope we get good news.

He's been saying the same thing for weeks.

Kid isn't going to play this year.

Based on the time of year, it would be gross incompetence for the NCAA to declare him eligible to play this year. There is no excuse for foot dragging.

The only excuse they could possibly have is someone is not supplying them with the documents they require.

This is the type of thing Josh was good at.

I guess the only thing more incompetent would be if they cleared his eligibility, let him play all year, then declared him retroactively ineligible after the season was over, and forced a vacating of all wins.

Has the NCAA done this to any university since?

See Derrick Rose, cleared by NCAA, then punished the entire university, except the coach. I'm sure that was because Calipari cheated, but still.

I have not heard the words "strict liability" used (or even mentioned) by the NCAA since our case. Of course, I don't remember the NCAA using "strict liability" as a standard before our case either.

RE: Azab!!! - 450bench - 01-15-2017 01:08 PM

Just an opinion, but the question with Azab is not whether he's eligible or not but how many games does he have to sit out before he can play because he played for the Egyptian national team, which the ncaa seems to think is a professional team. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here.

Then the secondary question is how much will it matter? He averaged 8 ppg in high school his senior year.

For reference sake, Jake McDowell averaged 10 ppg and Chad averaged 24 as h.s. seniors.

RE: Azab!!! - cmt - 01-15-2017 01:43 PM

I think he'll guard the post better than Clergeot

You can't teach being 6'11", plus it give the Tigers five additional fouls in at the post.

Have you seen him play? I haven't, but my son has played with him and some of the players at the Finch. Says he's actually got some skills. Not real fast but uses his size well, according to him. Tubby has and seems to like his game. He's 6-10 or 6-11 and weighs around 290. Tubby likes his hands and his fundamentals. Good enough for me. Let's wait until he finally gets on the floor to judge the guy. I think that's fair.
