1984 Memphis St. VS Oklahoma - TubbyTime - 01-12-2017 03:29 PM

I pulled that game up on YouTube and noticed Larry wasn't sitting on the bench. He used to always have that first seat beside the scores table. I wonder where he was for that game? Such a big game for both teams. I think we were ranked 13 and Oklahoma was 11th. Keith Lee was pumped up doing his strut dance and pumping his fists. Anyway, I found it odd that Larry wasn't there. Maybe he was recruiting?? Fun game to watch.

That was in the tournament against Tisdale. Seem to remember that Tisdale shot the ball at the end and it hit every part of the rim...rimming...rimming....rimming and out. Lee always seemed to play his best against the best players.

Oh I didn't realize it was available there. I may watch.

How many (full) old games are?

That I don't know. I have seen a few full Louisville games though. I think the 1985 at Louisville is a full game.

But the real reason I posted was I found it odd Larry wasn't there on the bench.

No the game I watched was a regular season game at mid south coliseum

I would agree with your assumption that he was probably recruiting. I had to think for a second before I realized Kirk was the head coach then and Larry, as assistant coach, was probably out burning up that infamous "tank of gas" for recruiting.

I have about 25-30 games from 81-mid nineties on VHS. Been meaning to get some on DVD for Vincent but haven't had time. Larry would not have missed an E8 game to recruit nor would Dana ask him to.

Several tiger games here including the 85 game against Villanova that some thought Kirk threw.

The game I was watching was not the NCAA tournament game. This was a regular season game played here at the mid south coliseum. If you pull it up you can easily see Larry wasn't on the bench. NBC with Al M. and Dick Enberg were the announcers. They piped in Fred Cook so you can here him announce the players. Our starters were Andre, Doom, Bobby, Derrick, Keith.
I don't know why he wasn't there, I was speculating he may have been out recruiting, I have no idea why he wasn't there. It just seemed odd.

Was this the one when Pickney was on coke ?

1984 we played them regular season at MSC. We played them the following year in the E8. I was at the MSC game. Lee showed out that day and we were loving it. I can't recall hearing about Finch missing at the time. He wouldn't have missed the game unless sick. Maybe too much Buntyn's that day?

I think I remember Big Jack saying Larry had the flu and had not been around the team for 4 or 5 days. But what I remember most was the Tigers held Wayman to his lowest point total as he was averaging about 30 ppg. He scored maybe 15 in that game.

Maybe someone should show the present team that game. Bet they have never seen it. Who knows they might see something, but probably would only make fun of the short shorts they wore back then.

Thanks man. Looks like I got my answer. When I clicked on the game and I had a clear view of the bench....I said, where the heck is Larry? Appreciate it say what!

DP was the work horse of those teams. He drew some of the toughest assignments and delivered. I was a freshman and remember this game well.
