top half of the league.

I'm still convinced that NDSU would struggle playing an entire season at 85 scholarships.

And exactly who in the league have you beaten in football? Georgia Southern that one time when they missed a field goal?

First of all, congrats on your excellent seasons.

I think you'd find that some of your close games would turn into losses. You're far better than FCS. I'd legitimately place you around 65-70 in FBS. Which would put you around 6-2 in the Belt. And you'd probably lose 1 OOC game a year too. So somewhere around 7-5 to 9-3 or so.

Remember, that every Sun Belt team you faced would be able to hang with you, so you'd end up getting beat up in your games. If you stay healthy, you'd do well, but injuries happen far more frequently at this level, mainly because you'd probably have to leave all your starters in for the full games and they'd be playing against guys as strong and frequently bigger than your guys.

Remember, you are a basically a flagship in a league full of small privates and smaller regional schools. Even in the Belt, you'd be playing against schools that are usually bigger than you are and who could recruit as well as you do. Basically, your advantage in FCS would turn into a steep talent/size/recruiting curve in FBS. You could do it well, but its not as easy as it might seem.

NDSU could be like Georgia Southern their first year in the league. Or they could be like South Alabama this year, with a few 'wow' upsets that struggled with the overall grind of FBS football.

What we've seen so far (in the Belt and CUSA) with the move ups. Teams moving up do surprisingly well in their first or second year, then struggle when the impact of the asymmetrical classes hits.

I think everyone recognizes that NDSU is in FCS simply because of geography. But I don't think you'd dominate the league as much as you might think. You've got a great program, and one that would be in FBS if you weren't so far away from the FBS conferences....but dominate....I'm not sure. FBS is different than FCS.

Best of luck against JMU.

Are you asking the same about C-USA on their board? This year, they were worse. Their non-conference record was atrocious.

If he did, I'd be surprised if the mods over there allowed it up there.

13-0 with an Access Bowl win!

Do you hate the Sun Belt or just the Sun Belt posters?

NDSU, pretending they weren't such a geographic outlier, would probably be about where App is: contending for the league title, going 10-2, 9-3ish. Honestly, for a really good team like NDSU, the only teams that would challenge NDSU would be App, Troy, and Arkansas State this year. Maybe Idaho.

Of course, this is assuming that NDSU would be entering the Sun Belt already having built up their roster to 85 scholarship players. They'd get worn down playing a 12-game FBS schedule with their current 63 scholarship team. Now, in a one-game scenario, could their current team beat convincingly any team in the league? Yes, they could. That doesn't mean they would, but I believe they'd be a major challenge for App, Troy, and Ark. State.

The real question is how bad would NDSU destroy the SEC?

Bonus question, if Alabama and NDSU played would they be able to play the game without some natural disaster caused by all of that ego in one place?

The good news for NDSU is their leadership doesn't have the balls to move them up with the big boys. So they can always hypothetically be better than whoever they want and feel really good about it.

RE: how bad would NDSU destroy the Sun Belt?? - SouthJags2012 - 12-16-2016 06:02 AM

Destroy? Hardly. Would they win some games? Yes. They would finish in the middle of the pack most years. Sorry don't buy the hype of NDSU since you beat Kansas State and Iowa and was it Iowa St the other team? Don't get too high on yourselves just because you are having a heck of a run. All good things always come to an end.

I feel bad for the guy. I mean this is embarrassing. He just wants to sit at the adult table one time but keeps getting bounced around with the kiddies.

"Dominate the belt. Just having fun"?

What I think I've learned over the past three seasons in FBS is that your 2-deep O-Line is just as important as your skill guys. Nobody can make it through a full FBS season without injuries so depth is what helps you be successful. I think right now, NDSU would be around 5 or 6 wins... with a full 85 scholarships, I'd expect you to be pretty good because you have a good program and good coaches... but in no way do I see any form of domination.

I was being sarcastic and making satire off the NDSU love. That is why I added the exclamation point. Sarcasm sometimes doesn't translate well.

NDSU could compete in the Sun Belt just as they could compete in CUSA or the MAC, but dominant is an entirely different animal.

NDSU would probably go 8-0 even if they had to play APP, ASU, and TROY in the same season. I don't think they would dominate any of the three of us though. If they had WMU's schedule they're likely 13-0 right now. I'd say they're a solid Top 30 team in the country. They're certainly not an Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State or Michigan.

RE: how bad would NDSU destroy the Sun Belt?? - TheRevSWT - 12-16-2016 05:56 PM

I feel it is safe in saying that NDSU would take Texas State to the woodshed this season.

That's not really much of a compliment though... There aren't many teams that DIDN'T do that to us this season.

RE: how bad would NDSU destroy the Sun Belt?? - ragin4u - 12-16-2016 07:51 PM

Not looking so great right now. JMU is looking like the better team. NDSU looking like a 6th-7th place Sunbelt team so far.

Maybe beat JMU first, then we will discuss. I like your team.
