Mike Aresco Inteview - Attackcoog - 09-27-2016 12:50 PM

Says we could stand pat at 10. Interestingly, also says we could stand pat if we just lose 1 as well. Says we had 19 games with over a million viewers in 2015 and already have around a half dozen for 2016 (some were well over 1 million viewers). The interview is a little ECU centric due to the venue---but it mostly about the entire conference. Says TV is taking note of the ratings.

IMHO----That tells me there will be plenty of interest in the AAC if its package ever hits the open market---which is why I think ESPN will be interested in an early extension for the AAC very soon.

If the Big 12 does not expand as it is looking, we're all gonna make some $$ soon.

I hope that you are correct.

Defying the ESPN mothership is extremely dangerous. The Big East was relatively stable, and was still destroyed for daring to go to open market.

We are a whole less stable than the old Big East.

Any reasonable raise that separates us from the G5, I say TAKE IT.

What if a GOR would net each school 10-12mill? As fans, would you be pro/against?

FTR, I'd say do it

Only way I'd be ok with a GOR is 20-30 mil per year per team and a guaranteed NY6 bowl for league champ.

In other words, I'm against a GOR as that will never happen.

Depends on the length of the GOR signed. One that expires at the same time or before the Big12 GOR expires would be fine.

If we signed a GOR, I say push our tv partner/s to cough up $15 - $20 mil each... That would be reasonable.

NCAA rule for championship games is you have to be divided into divisions IF you have 12. IF you have less than 12 then you must play every other member of the conference. If you stand pat at 10 or 11, you can't have a championship game without playing a round robin schedule. That means Navy gets locked into Army, ND and AF as its OOC games EVERY year. If you stand at 11, then you have to play 10 conference games and then Navy has to drop ND. Can't see them dropping another service academy.

Of course you could give up the championship game....and the TV revenue and exposure that comes with it.

I'd think ESPN would roll BYU into it to add value and it wouldn't cost them much

At 10 million plus I think BYU would be very interested especially if the Big 12 said they were standing pat. Gives them an opportunity to play games in the eastern time zone which helps them get on tv earlier in the day.

When most people/groups gets raises it usually is in the 400% range......

You right but not under today's AAC results... Meaning, many including tv networks were under the impression the AAC was then a dead walking conference but as we fast forward from yesterday, this league's backbone has gotten much stronger hence super tv $$$ ratings.

Again, only if this league remains intact could it than negotiate quite a comfortable raise.

RE: Mike Aresco Inteview - Kittonhead - 09-27-2016 05:59 PM

The question is can the AAC improve enough in FB/BB over the next two seasons to position itself for a much larger TV deal (10 million per school).

It's possible. A year where the AAC can put 5 in the NCAA tournament is going to attract attention. Houston making the playoff will do it. By the end of the year multiple AAC schools could be ranked.

Computer Poll Average.

SEC 38.36
PAC 42.15
ACC 44.59
B1G 48.14
AAC 61.04
MAC 84.74
MWC 86.04
SBC 92.41
CUSA 100.65

http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm

The AAC is within 13 points of the B12 in conference strength but is 23 points ahead of the next G5 conference the MAC.
