They are trying to brand as Louisiana instead of U-La-La. If it works that is a nice branding tool. C-usa should have picked them.

They are only allowed to use that branding in athletics. I believe ULM can too but I never cared enough to look it up

Correct. ULM tried when the name change took place and abandoned that effort for the ULM moniker.

Our official name is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and we use it on all official university matters. However, athletically, we brand ourselves as LOUISIANA and use it for all areas of athletics. It is legal and the UL System approves use of it. The University of Louisiana at Monroe has chosen to brand themselves as ULM. Think of this like Nevada (Nevada Reno) and UNLV (Nevada Las Vegas).
