Massey Composite shows AAC is top G5 Conference - PirateMarv - 09-18-2016 11:48 AM

As of September 17, 2016, the AAC has pulled away from the other G5's. The MAC is closing ground on the MWC and CUSA is dead last. Aresco's narrative of the AAC being a P6 is looking solid.

1. SEC 38.75
2. Pac 12 42.53
3 Big 10 46.88
4 ACC 50.59
5 Big 12 52.00
6 AAC 64.51
7 FBS Indep 67.16
8 MWC 81.07
9 MAC 84.03
10 Sun Belt 94.97
11 CUSA 96.15

If Temple can capitulate on Rhule, ECU and UCF realize their former selves, and one of the private schools in the west really turns the corner, this could be a P5 conference in all but tv revenue. The NY6 bid would be all but officially ours.

Sure....until Houston and Cincinnati leave for the Big 12.

The AAC is in the same position the MW was back in 2009. The MW had Utah, TCU, BYU, and Boise was begging to get in. Had the MW added Boise State then, the Pac had not taken Utah, the MW was going to get BCS inclusion.

Sorry guys, I like your conference, but unfortunately, due to realignment, the AAC is going to fall back a notch.

Yes, the top will take a temporary hit with Houston (AAC has several to replace Cincy football).
But the difference is that the AAC won't backfill with Hawaii, Utah State, San Jose, etc. etc, thereby widening out its bottom.
Whatever the AAC's bottom is, it's well-funded and thin. And, so far, it hasn't lost any ooc games except to P5s

And the MWC in 2009 was in the same position as CUSA 1.0 was back in 2003 when CUSA had Louisville, TCU, Cincinnati, Houston, USF etc. So AAC schools had already been through realignment with the Big East at a time when CUSA 1.0 was strong enough to be considered for power conference status. In fact the AAC is nothing more than a reconstituted CUSA 1.0 with UConn rather than Louisville and Navy rather than Army and UCF rather than TCU.

The Big12 showing no interest in any of the mwc schols, dropping back a level among the G4's and with your current conference lineup should tell you something.

Your nervous I get it. If I was in your shoes I would be as well. But even if we loose two teams we are going to be better than the MWC. The MWC is an after thought on the East Coast. The only G5 school that exists in peoples minds on the East Coast is Boise.

So rock on San Diego guy. Continue to watch as the MWC becomes more irrelevant while the AAC makes smart moves going forward that keeps the conference on top.

But hey, enjoy your Zoo and the weather.

RE: Massey Composite shows AAC is top G5 Conference - Attackcoog - 09-18-2016 02:20 PM

We should go at least 7-4 next week in OOC play with a few opportunities to do even better. Personally, I actually think we do 8-3 or better. I have them as losses, but I think USF and ECU both have legit shots in their games to really jump into the spotlight this week. If that occurs, it could be a banner week for the AAC. I think by next Sunday the separation between the AAC and the other G5's will become eve more massive.

SMU vs TCU---L

ECU vs V Tech--L (yeah, Im calling it a loss, but ECU could easily win this one for another P5 win)

Tulsa vs Fresno St---W

Memphis vs Bowling Green---W

Temple vs Charlotte----W

UConn vs Syracuse----W (its proably a tossup---but I think UConn wins this one)

Houston vs Texas St---W

Tulane vs ULL----W (I think Tulane takes this one)

USF vs Florida St----L (But a USF upset is certainly possible)

Cincy vs Miami Ohio----W

UCF vs FIU---W

This has more to do with geography my brother. It is what it is. Our President was told this by the Big 12.

C'mon man. The B12 isn't going to tell a school they aren't even close. This is a pretty collegial bunch. It might be geography (though that doesn't seem to be a problem for UConn and BYU), but if it was as something less benign, I doubt they would tell the school.

RE: Massey Composite shows AAC is top G5 Conference - fanhood - 09-18-2016 03:10 PM

"The major factor eliminating SDSU, one source said, is distance. The closest of the Big 12’s current 10 members is Texas Tech in Lubbock, which is 877 miles from San Diego. West Virginia is 2,116 miles away."

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/sdut-sdsu-big-12-expansion-list-eliminated-2016aug31-story.html

This was later stated by our Prez, and former AD, on local radio.

We never had a chance anyway. It is what it is. I like the MW, the mid tier teams (Colorado State, Nevada, Utah State) need to get better, and SJSU and Hawaii need to commit to football (financially that is). We'll see.

Notre Dame and BYU need to start pulling their weight for the independents.

Ha. Ok, sounds good.

San Diego has a lot to sell to a conference, but suffers from being in the PAC 12 footprint just as many of us do with other conferences. I hated that deal fell through due to Boise's wussification on the matter back in the last realignment round. Was looking forward to an occasional chance to go to a game there.

However, the relevant topic is the current power ratings and the AAC is not even disputable as best of the rest. Still, a Houston loss might open the door for another conference rep to steal 'our' spot in the NY6 game.

RE: Massey Composite shows AAC is top G5 Conference - T-Town Cane - 09-18-2016 05:31 PM

The bottom half of the ACC and Big 10 this year is awful. You give us BYU, Boise St, Air Force and San Diego St. and we are a P5 conference.

RE: Massey Composite shows AAC is top G5 Conference - firmbizzle - 09-18-2016 08:01 PM

We are closer to the B12 than the MWC is to us.
