5 MAC Questions Entering Spring Ball

RE: SPRING BALL - Dirty Ernie - 03-17-2016 07:40 AM

The long term history of WMU being good, respectable but seldom exciting and elite leads to middle of the road moderate level expectations. That is so evident at the fan level and at the sports writer level.

The linked article ends on the note that Toledo will fight it out with NIU for the West title.

Until we can start punching the traditional MAC teams in the face, nothing will change. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

Good to hear that Eric Assuoa is doing well. We need some DL guys to emerge.

RE: SPRING BALL - ColinApocalypse - 03-31-2016 06:04 PM

Well it's nice to have a little bit of news.

Carrington Thompson seems to be turning into that #2 receiver. I hope he's putting on some weight. Last year he was 6'2" 162 lbs, and looked very skinny. That's fine for those deep balls, but I'd be scared to see him get laid out by a linebacker.

Sounds like Obbie Jackson will be at CB across from Darius Phillips.

Fleck says our D-line is playing very well. Keion Adams, Eric Assuoa and Andre Turner all had multiple sacks in today's scrimmage.

I'm going to try to go to "Nekton Neon Night" tomorrow and see what I can see.

I'm gonna try to hit up neon night on a date with my wife. Chin chins and nektons?

I hope you get a big offensive showing. It's always nice to score on date night.

I know nothing about him. Any insight?

I hope this isn't a weakness because sometimes the only thing allowing us to compete against the run has been our corners' abilities to cover on an island.

He was a great athlete in high school. Played WR and DB.

His story reminds me of Darius Phillips. A stud WR converted to corner because of pure athleticism, ball skills, and playmaking abilities.

I wouldn't be concerned just yet. Everything I've heard about him is that he is a very good athlete. A diamond in the rough.

FWIW, he was also an EMU commit very late in the process who we basically stole out from under them.

A new level of journalism: When you reference a press release this way:

In Tuesday's spring scrimmage, Carrington Thompson shined. The 6-foot-2 senior REPORTEDLY caught two "highlight" touchdowns.

I wussed out. Had Chinn Chinns for dinner earlier. Went home and had digiornos to warm up. I feel like death. 03-puke

Giovanni Ricci is a big dude. Looks almost TE size in the photo's. Reminds me a lot of Eric Monette. I wouldn't mind another Eric Monette type that is not afraid to roam through the middle, collapse the DB's, and give our outside receivers some space.

I have no doubt about Thompson's athletic abilities and his potential. Too many dropped balls last year. That's what he's got to clean up IMO.

Even though I flaked out, my 9-year old had the following observations:

"Will be good:"

Jarvion Franklin looked great. Looked good running routes and catching balls.
Keion Adams looked good on defense.
Kadeem Gouldbourne pancaked someone in 1-on-1 drills.
Bellamy is "crazy fast; runs like a gazelle."
Caleb Bailey looked good on defense.

A list of others who will "probably be good:"
Derrick Mitchell - good punting
Asantay Brown - good coverage
Jon Wassink - looked good

Bogan had fumble issues, and coach had to shout "The ball is the program".

Thanks kid!
