The University has to know IT'S NOT FAIR.... - Antonio5fan - 02-04-2016 11:55 PM

How is Josh going to get good players to come to Memphis by putting a mess like tonight on the floor on nationwide TV?
How long is the school going to allow the attendance to stay at rock bottom? The longer they wait to make a change the longer it's going to take to rebuild the Tiger Basketball Team and get the fans back.
Josh wasn't ready to become the head coach. He hasn't learned a lot in 7 years as the record gets worse every year. Barring winning the conference tournament, they won't even make the NIT for the second year in a row.
It's not fair to these young guys who have penned their lifelong dreams of playing at the next level on Memphis. It's not fair to the fans who have been fans a long time to put an embarrassment on the floor. (no reflection on any players).
It's not fair to the donors who have plunked down big bucks to keep getting rewarded with mediocrity. Finally it's not fair to the University with the name MEMPHIS on their Tiger hats, sweats, and hoodies. I have been an avid Josh Pastner fan since he's been at Memphis but enough is enough. It's time for him to move on for his sake and the sake of the school.
It's time to get busy U of M and start to right the ship.

I agree it's now reached the point of something needs to be done now or at the very least in March. When fans are yelling at the coach which is just an ugly scene especially because it's a college team but because the program is in shambles it's time to do something but they won't even address the situation

They will when a mass exodus of players and coaches takes place not to mention supporters. The fans although pretty fair tonight have already left the building.

I thought the fans were there to do their part tonight. Considering what we've been this year, the crowd tried to get into the game, was pretty vocal the first half, and then??? We were treated to a complete POS performance by coaches and players. I will continue to go and cheer them on but this is beyond disappointing. I think the loss to ECU sealed his fate but games like tonight erase any lingering doubts that there is hope for better with him coaching.

What is not fair is that Josh keep stealing money from the university

If he is such a stand up guy, and a nice guy. goody two shoes right?!....why don't he just QUIT!

He's got to know it's over..negotiate a reasonable buyout and bow out gracefully

i know why he won't do it because he's going to take every penny just like any other scumbag....

RE: The University has to know IT'S NOT FAIR.... - kabluey - 02-05-2016 12:14 PM

Not fair? What are you talking about? The only thing that's unfair is at the governmental levels of non profit statuses, and the institutional levels of P5 vs G5, and the disingenuous absurdity of amateur athletics.

This? This was the coach fans lauded several years ago, despite not developing top 10 talent. He's never helped talent realize and develop their potential. He rarely made in game adjustments. He hasnt changed. There's nothing unfair about that. He is who he's been.

I take that back, what Wren Baker and David Rudd did in the buyout and extension, that was a bit unfair.

This season, though, nothing unfair about this. Not in my opinion. This was coming from last season. I hate the buyout and am unwilling to exercise it right now, maybe to a personal fault. I resent it. And Wren Baker (assuming he was behind it). Grrr...

Anyone blaming CJP for this situation needs a wakeup call. He took an unbelievably good deal when it was presented. Its our own administration's fault...

Ill never blame the guy for refusing to forfeit millions.

I blame him for not developing players, crazy rotation usage, and not winning enough big games. But I dont blame him for taking the money he is promised in a contract WE PRESENTED TO HIM.

RE: The University has to know IT'S NOT FAIR.... - Mimi - 02-09-2016 06:33 PM

At least this is new.

So- the team has been mediocre the last two seasons for the most part, and even when they were good they were unfortunately short of elite good so not enough good will was built up.

Really?

Any more gems?

Lord, has anyone discussed a game? Or is the board still essentially too insecure to do something like that before another one brings up a fresh point like the team was beaten badly at SMU?

This season, especially the two weeks prior to the Cincy home game, has fallen short. Absent a huge reversal in play, our coach likely will and likely should be replaced. With that out of the way, can anyone discuss a game or a player without the Einsteins blowing in about CBU as though no one knows?

Or has it become required to try and top each other in terms of how much more clever a bash we can come up with?

RE: The University has to know IT'S NOT FAIR.... - Antonio5fan - 02-09-2016 06:38 PM

All of you are preaching to the choir. How anyone can glean anything other than the U of M needs to make a change and not perpetuate this downward spiral is beyond me. YES he is taking the money without delivering the goods but as long as the university is willing to fork it out Josh would be a fool to turn it down. If your bosses at work give you a huge raise this year how many of you will give back the extra amount of the raise. I was merely pointing out that the University bears some responsibility for keeping it going. YES,YES,YES by all means fix it. It's not Josh's place to volunteer to fire himself. Whew!!!

I agree that you cannot blame him for taking the contract but would add that when anyone accepts a top contract the expectations from the fans and university should be higher. Top pay then we should expect top tier results. end of story (in my book anyway)

Funny in that some people expect Josh to reach into his wallet and hand back the cash which was negotiated in good faith for him.

Say what you will about his coaching, handling of players, etc., but ranting that he has been "stealing" from the university (It's not stealing when the money is given to you) and should quit is.....funny.

It's Tom Bowen's job to decide what UofM needs to do. He knows all the figures and he is the one who is responsible for keeping the athletic department in the black. Too bad we can't just let him do what he was hired to do.

Correct. And from what GP was saying it's not like he had some superstar agent handling the deal. Just an attorney
