How many of your top 10 recruits will actually see the field? - HERD1 - 02-04-2016 08:25 AM

From a Marshall fan's perspective, I would LOVE to know this.

For us, I would estimated it sadly at about 30% (and some years that is generous).

Literally...60-90% of our top 10 recruits never make the field.

I would really like to know if this is just us or does everybody experience this...

Our Top 10 usually work out. It's the other 15 that we struggle with... they are borderline FCS players.

Man, though, that's huge...if you are keeping near 100% of your top 10, and we are struggling to keep 20%...think of the implications of that.

Us Marshall fans all like to see that we have the top class in CUSA...but in reality...it's probably 5 or 6 after everything shakes out.

Last season we had one true freshman play and he played sparingly...MOst seasons our entire freshman class redshirts....However this year, Brohm said there a few guys if ready might play this upcoming season..OUr Juco transfer and UofL transfers will play right away if we are including those guys....

Not talking about freshman playing...but how many guys actually stay on the team and at some point in their next 4 years see the field...

Need to quit signing non qualifiers

I think all of our (teams in the conference) teams sign players that are probably not actually FBS talent to fill the class. Naturally, they will be less likely to see a lot of playing time, but may provide quality depth.

This article gives you a quick look on how our recruiting has turned out in the last 3 years.

The most recent class that has completed eligibility is 2011. Fifth year seniors from 2011 class just finished in 2015 season. These three star or better recruits from 2011 alone demonstrate how wrong you are.

Eric Frohnapfel
Raheem Cato
Armonze Daniel
Steward Butler
Deandre Reaves
Craig Wilkins
Jacques Samuel
Remi Watson
Tommy Shuler
Keith Baxter
Cortez Carter

These are all at least 3 star recruits. Surely some of them are in the Top 10 of the class?

More recent classes will have similar results when they are finished with eligibility. The one exception might be 2012 which was a very small class.

Yeah, I thought the 60-90% figure was pretty inflated.

We never sign 25. To say we sign 15 borderline FCS players is a bit harsh. We'd be at the bottom of the conference if we were that bad.

Best player in UAB's previous best class was a QB named Jake Tompkins. Went home after a few days of practice, became a cop, apparently is happy with his life.

Some of these guys have played tackle football for 12 years, living out someone else's dream. When they get to college and can finally make their own decisions, shouldn't be surprising that sometimes that decision includes I never want to play football again, I never want to see biscuits lined up on the breakfast table in the pistol formation, I never want to hear my own family screaming at me from the stands for dropping a pass.

I'd take that given figure for our 4 star recruits.

Kicked off team:
Brian Robinson 2010
AJ Leggett 2012
Angelo Jean-Louis 2013

Not kicked off team:
Deontay McManus 2013
Kendall Gant 2014

60%.

You can be pretty bad and still be in the top of this conference.

Yeah, I remember Jake. I grew up about 10 miles from where he did. At the time, he was the state's leader for passing TDs in a season. His commitment is what first got me interested in UAB. He went home from practice due to girlfriend issues. Course, we already had a great QB on our roster by the name of Darryl Hackney.

Not in football. I would say our top 4 last year was pretty solid compared to other similar conferences.

Except he said "how many see the field". The only one that didn't is robinson.

That would be 20% don't.
