Plenty of tickets available for tomorrow - GullLake - 10-09-2015 09:15 AM

Sad that only 12,000 tickets have been sold for tomorrow's rivalry game at Waldo.

Last year, at CMU, only 17,000 bothered to show. 03-zzz

WMU and CMU both need to market this rivalry better. One thing that would help is to ensure that BOTH BANDS are in the stadium. How can you have a rivalry game without the visiting band?! 01-wingedeagle

Can you imagine an OSU-UM game without the script Ohio in either Ann Arbor or Columbus?

We are going to have perfect weather and both teams remain in contention for a championship, provided they win Saturday. Waldo should be packed with both WMU brown & gold and CMU maroon & yellow.

I actually think that's a pretty good number.

Realistically, if 6,000 students show up (out of 7,000 seats available), that's 18,000 not counting walk-up sales.

I'd be surprised if we didn't eclipse 20,000, if not not closer to 22,000+

I'm not too worried about it. This game in kzoo at least always seems to draw a lot of walk ups and pack the student section.. problem being with the noon kick the students probably won't fill it till the 2nd quarter.

There was an incident in either '88 or '89 when the CMU band came to Waldo. Not sure of the details, but it involved an impromptu "pow-wow" and "war-chant" by CMU band members around a goal-post, alerting the PC police and resulting in an agreement not to let the bands travel to the other school. There were actually several examples of misbehavior by both visiting bands, this was just the culmination. Select CMU band members had to attend cultural sensitivity workshops and apologize to the Chippewa tribe.

I thought they tried to resurrect the travel in the early 2000's, but I'm not sure what happened.

I bought 6 pick 3s, great seats, and have 3 left for this game that I can't even give away.

RE: Plenty of tickets available for tomorrow - Bronco68 - 10-09-2015 04:18 PM

During Elson Floyd's first year he wanted to take the band to the game. CMU had just finished adding 10,000 seats, but turned down the request siting lack of room as they expected a sell out. I was sitting behind Elson as he looked at the nearly empty section of seats behind us in the end zone corner (more than enough for the band and then some). His comment to us was, the CMU band will never come to Waldo during his time at WMU. Don't know if his curse still holds!

Basically, with students that's 19000 tickets pre sold for a MAC game.

I doubt there s a MAC game all year that has that many tickets pre sold.
