This is by far one of the most amazing partnerships UT has ever formed and it will give our students many more opportunities during their time in medical school and during residencies. $100 million dollars in construction money by 2027 and after doing some math, between $200 million to $222.5 million in additional revenue to the UT Medical Campus by 2021 with payments going up to $50 million per year after that! Many universities are in dire straights for revenue dollars and UT just hit pay dirt after a great deal of work and time. Very exciting.

This is a very big deal and the type of deal that can change the fortunes of an entire region for years to come!!!! I am very excited about this great news based both on being a Toledoan and a UT alumnus. This deal is significant for many reasons but it hopefully foreshadows more leveraged partnerships in the region. It's about time we actually did "forward and innovative thinking" as a community.
This is huge win for UT and Promedica. It makes Promedica a future challenger to the likes of the Cleveland Clinic, etc. since research will become a new focus based on alignment with UT's research facilities. UT as a whole gains financial stability with a the chance to create a burgeoning medical school. This transfusion will only yield more future dollars via gifts from successful former medical students who will increasingly seek out UT due to its unique opportunities with our new partner Promedica.

Something that Cleveland Clinic also just recently announced. Cleveland having the same problem as most communities, training AND keeping doctors. What sets CC so far apart from a user POV, it is easily the most organized and friendly facility (medical or other) I've even seen, from appointment to scheduling to consultation to results to billing, particularly doctor to specialist to testing billing. ONE bill. Nothing here comes close. They could work on parking prices, which are higher than the doctor bills I think. UofMich caps parking at $2. $2!! and patients have separate parking from docs and staff making it way easy in and out.
Boy if they need advice on how to operate their new set-up, I'm their guy! lol
Anyone that hopes to compete with the big boys has to find a way to make the education cheaper, from techs to docs. That's it, right there. Efficiency helps but the big boys are ahead in that. research helps but no way Toledo is going to catch up in research in less than decades. Either someone gives up a share of their bucks or the community gets involved and says, you stay here, we'll pay back part of that ticket. No one is going to compete doing the same ol same ol and no one is going to compete without giving up something they don't want to give up.

What would have the Toledo medical community looked like if Toledo native Danny Thomas would have built St. Judes Hospital here in Toledo instead of Memphis, Tennessee???
I realize that Memphis is more centrally located than Toledo is. Probably the reason it was built there.

One of the problems I have is that Dean Cooper said that while Promedica will become an academic medical center, UTMC may lose that designation. This affects a number of things including accreditation by important national organizations.
He also mentioned that the academic center designation will make it easier for Promedica to hire physicians. Conversely, it could make it more difficult for UTMC.
