Fox Sports on the SunBelt - CajunFanatico - 08-18-2015 03:28 PM

Quote:SUN BELT

Willie Fritz’ souped-up triple option spread hybrid system at Georgia Southern gives rival coaches headaches. Sparked by QB Kevin Ellison and RB Matt Breida, the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year, the Eagles again will have defenses reeling, but Ga. Southern will be pushed by two other solid squads in ULL and Appalachian State. Ragin' Cajuns coach Mark Hudspeth keeps cranking out good teams, and he has a stud in RB Elijah McGuire, the Sun Belt’s preseason offensive player of the year after amassing 1,848 total yards last season. The bottom half of the Sun Belt, on the other hand, is dismal. -- BF

Georgia Southern 9-3 (8-0)
UL-Lafayette 9-3 (7-1)
Appalachian State 7-5 (5-3)
Arkansas State 6-6 (5-3)
Texas State 6-6 (5-3)
Troy 4-8 (3-5)
South Alabama 4-8 (3-5)
ULM 3-9 (2-6)
New Mexico State 1-11 (1-7)
Georgia State 1-11 (0-8)
Idaho 1-11 (0-8)

Championship: Georgia Southern

Trump must've cut em off.

Only prediction group to put AState at 6-6. I guess that means the one random fan on our board who picked that will feel glad that he is not lonely now. Side note, but how is it possible for App State to beat both AState and ULL, but finish 5-3 in league?

Oh you know because he has the sun belt going 39-49 in conference play... He doesn't math very well. He needs to add 5 more wins somewhere and remove 5 loses to make his predictions even remotely realistic.

Truly. Not much point in reading any further when the predictions are mathematically impossible.

I was sitting there pouring over schedule to figure out why they had people losing too. It took some research, but it's basically impossible for ULL to Finish 7-1, App and AState to go 5-3, and ULM to go 2-6 based off of combined games between the teams. Same theory exist with GSU, Idaho, and NMSU going 1-23 combined, yet there are 2 combined games between the teams.

The math doesn't add up.

Just to point out...that's really bad for a prediction site to do that.

Maybe so, but the only ones I'd swap are ULL and Arkansas State. The rest looks correct.

So you have the Cajuns going 6-6?

The order perhaps, but it's clear that the author just texted it in from his girlfriends apartment to meet a deadline.

What has happened to the University of South Florida? It was only a few years ago they were undefeated and ranked #2 in the country. Now they are predicted to go 2-10.

I try to be reasonable and I don't know about ULL but I would be surprised and disappointed if ASU only won 6 games. With very few players lost, a ton of newcomers and some continuity for a change I expect we should improve on last season.

No. I meant the order looks correct, swapping ULL and Arkansas State. I think 8-4 for ULL (don't know your schedule inside out to know if the math adds up). Arkansas State's offense is too nasty to be fourth. Too much top talent at the top of the SBC, someone has to be the worst of the four, even if they're all neck and neck, which I think they are.

RE: Fox Sports on the SunBelt - DoubleAggie - 08-20-2015 12:09 PM

Somebody gets it.

I considered bitching about this to Fox Sports, just so they'd know we felt dissed,
but instead, I'll just ignore Fox,
and read my new favourite SB Nation, who picked up on this , with the headline:

"Fox Sports Completely Butchered Their "Non-Power Five" Preview"

RE: Fox Sports on the SunBelt - chiefsfan - 08-20-2015 12:27 PM

The best part about this whole story is that Fox claimed it was a Math error, and fixed it. The problem is, they still have the Sun Belt going 2 games under .500 in league play.

They made the same mistake with CUSA...and that's not counting the ridiculous idea that Charlotte is going to somehow win the same number of league games as Old Dominion.

RE: Fox Sports on the SunBelt - TrueBlueAlum - 08-20-2015 01:07 PM

Sad thing is, the G5 are the only ones who are really going to care. Most P5 teams get enough publicity and write-ups all around for this to not matter to them. So they wont do anything about it.
