SEC schools to each receive record $31.07 million payout - Collegiate Black Man - 05-29-2015 10:47 AM

For those of you who long to see Memphis in a "Big 5" conference, you are gonna love this article . Interesting quote:

Quote:The total amount of the distribution is composed of revenue generated from the SEC Network, televised football, bowl games, the SEC football championship, televised basketball, the SEC men's basketball tournament, NCAA championships and a supplemental surplus distribution.

Yes, this is good money, but the investment we have to make in football seems to be handcuffing us in Basketball (why Pastner is still here baffles my mind, but many say the buyout on his contract is too prohibitive).

For those of you who long for an invite to the "Big 5", what more does Memphis have to do to get one?

Don't worry - we added Navy and are on ESPN.

Have to wait for something to push the Big 12. If and when that happens we're certainly going to be right there. The Memphis area is prime recruiting and new for the Big 12. Same for Memphis' college TV market --- which, as I recall, is ESPN top 10. Football is better by light years. Basketball just signed the #11 recruiting class in the nation according to 247. Just keep improving and wait for our opportunities ---

Let's see what Pastner and Stoudamire (and I guess daddy Lawson as well) can due with this bunch.

Actaully, the OP mentioned him from the jump.

I mentioned Pastner in the OP in reference to the financial investment being made in football possibly being the reason why he was still head coach . Is his buyout more prohibitive because of the investments being made in football, in light of the well publicized $1.9M loss the basketball program experienced last season?

Cause when you put the SEC and basketball in a thread, it's going to die out pretty quickly.

In recent history, basketball has always lost money if you don't factor in donations and the subsidy to athletics from the school.

his buyout has never been prohibitive.
