What caused the change?

A&M offered us a 500k buyout last year. We sat on that until Tx. Tech offered a 800k game. We were only going to get 200k for the A&M game because we also got the 2012 game in Shreveport as part of the deal. So we play Tx Tech instead of A&M and we make an extra 100k. As for Mississippi State they called us wanting to push the 2016 game back to 2017. We did that and signed the UMass deal. I think MSU wanted to free up a date to schedule BYU.

I read that after moving TX A&M out, and TX Tech in, the difference for LA Tech was an extra 300K, not just 100K. At least that's the figure that appeared in the media newspaper story.

I actually like it. We pick up the extra 300K, and have a much better chance of beating TX Tech (from the Big XII) than we would have of beating TX A&M (of the SEC) in my opinion. In fact, I don't think LA Tech has ever played TX Tech. I really like the "battle of the Tech's".

Texas Tech is paying us 800k. We're buying out A&M for 500k so we make 300k on the deal. A&M was going to pay us 200k to play them. So we make 100k more.

@ST_IsabellaTNS: Some folks might be upset about schedule changes but Louisiana Tech is getting $100K more + winnable game. Win-win http://t.co/AUlZ5yNqMo

Our AD was concerned about playing most of the SEC West in 2016. Before these latest moves, LA Tech was originally scheduled to play Miss St at home in Ruston, at TX A&M and at Arkansas in 2016.

I have absolutely no way, no way, to confirm it but a close source tells me that Ms State will not be playing in Dogpatch again.

The real joke is the Arkansas game getting moved from Little Rock to Fayettenam. Worst drive ever is going to Fayetteville from anywhere in America.

you're probably right, this time next year Mississippi St will be wanting to buyout the game

I knew they wouldn't come back after we beat them the first time.

Our AD is in over his head dealing with P5 programs. We have gotten much better deals in the past than this TX Tech debacle. We might have 50 fans travel to Lubbock for that.

You'd rather play at A&M for less money?

RE: LaTech alters 2016 OOC football schedule - FlyHawk98 - 05-21-2015 09:59 PM

Heck forget about the money Texas Tech is still a respectable P5 program, but that is a much easier win.

I agree. We're still playing a P5 in Texas. We have a better chance at the win. And we get more money. It's an easy decision IMO. The money is very comparable to what we got to beat Illinois and Virginia in 2012...I think it's a little more actually.

We've signed $1.2M contracts at least 10 years ago. $800K is too low. Anybody on this message board could have cut that paltry deal.

You can have your body bag games. I'll take the winnable P5 games for a few hundred k less.

Same here. I would take less money for a P5 game that is more winnable.

That is a great swap for LA Tech.

RE: LaTech alters 2016 OOC football schedule - T_Won1 - 05-22-2015 08:14 AM

Usually the teams that pay over 1 million have the huge budgets... Nebraska, Florida, A&M, LSU, Alabama, Ohio St, etc. Texas Tech is more like TCU than Texas A&M. I also like the chance to win the game over receiving a little more money. Also, we have been going head-to-head with Texas Tech on a few recruits recently. We don't recruit against A&M (they take whoever they want). This was a good move for us.
