Next Year's Rotation - lemmingleap - 05-15-2015 01:38 AM

Some talk on other threads about next year's hoops rotation.

While they desperately need a Godfrey type backup big man with what I think is one last open scholarship, as it stands I bet the minutes are something like this in a close game:

F/C Goodwin 30 (hopefully gets back to SO rather than JR year production)
F/C Nichols 30 (hopefully doesn't have glass ankles)
F Burrell 20 (he/and or Crawford always out there as best perimeter defenders)
G Tarrant 30 (can't overstate what a great pickup this is, will lead in MPG and PPG)
G Kedren 30 (hopefully in better shape, Tarrant will really take pressure off him)
F Dedric 20 (backup PF alongside Goodwin or Nichols, just like King this year)
G Crawford 20 (can't score but defense will get him minutes, sharing time w/Burrell)
G Woodson 20 (just because Pastner likes him and he can hit a spot up 3)
F KJ (odd man out, might get some minutes at the 4 if bigs get in foul trouble)

Someone said earlier Pastner was hoping for a shorter rotation, I hope that's true like the 8-9 man one above although it begs the question whether some of these incoming freshman guards would be better off redshirting like Crawford did.

Crawford can't score?

RE: Next Year's Rotation - tigerjamesc - 05-15-2015 05:34 AM

I like it but we need more beef

RE: Next Year's Rotation - Atlanta - 05-15-2015 06:43 AM

Both Lawsons are going to get good minutes, you can count on it. It will probably cost Woodson, Crawford, Burrell & even Nichols & Goodwin minutes either directly or indirectly - at least early season. Only if either Lawson proves ineffective on the floor after several games will they lose minutes. Not saying they will start but each will be an early & often go to guy in the pre-conference season. Can't imagine Coach Lawson didn't get specific about their opportunities when he negotiated his deal.

I think kj will produce more than dedric early on because of his aggressiveness

I hope he plays the players that give them the best chance to win. Having said that, I realize there's also the question of a younger Lawson who may be the best of the bunch. Since recruiting for college sports is now tracking middle school athletes, if I'm CJP the recruiter, I might do every thing in my power to keep Coach Lawson happy regardless of where I'm going to be coaching in the future.

It's going to be interesting to see. Especially if Josh sticks by his "I'm going to go with a 7 man rotation" plan.

I just hope he figures out his rotation before season is half over.

How, historically, have his off season promises been followed?

I think we should remove the Usernames from the left side of the board so that each poster feels responsibility to MT.ORG and not to the name to the left of their posts.

(Don't worry it will be reversed after 3 posts)

He lost me a couple years ago.. I no longer listen to his coach speak.

Or people could look at the content of the post and not have to decide whether to like it or dislike it based upon who the author is.

I would bet that more people look to the left of my posts and decide whether they like it or don't before ever looking to the content of the post.

If they just brought back the Bengal Board all of this would be a non-issue.

It's Pastner. Set expectations accordingly.
