Calipari wants grad transfers to sit a year - need to "cut this thing by two-thirds" - TIGERCITY - 04-28-2015 09:54 AM

"You need two years in grad school anyway, so it makes sense," Calipari said.

Eliminating waivers and making grad students sit out a year would "cut this thing by two-thirds," he added.

Making kids sit a year is bs. He's wrong. But I think he's just messing with the media because he knows it's not about education.

Translation: "I don't benefit from it, so screw the kids."

Do they have a masters degree in Interdisciplinary Studies?

You got it Bill. He doesn't have to use grad transfers so he wants to screw it up for the ones that do. Eliminates more competition for him.

I think that's right --- Calipari's money tree is the 'one/two and dones' - allowing other programs to bring in experienced players only narrows the talent gap. So I can see why Uncle Cal wants to decide what a player can do *after* he graduates.

One and done is fine for Calipari but he wants grad transfers to sit out a year. Must benefit him in some way.

Antonio got it. This is simply how you water down the competition.

No one is going to out talent Calipari's teams. But as we've seen in the NCAAs --- 'experienced teams' can beat him. *This* is what Calipari's gripe is really about ---

It really goes to show how much he cares for the kids.

He makes a valid point...the kids that are doing the grad transfer aren't likely to become NBA players, so why not maximize the educational opportunities and get that Master's degree.

I wonder how many kids that have done the grad transfer actually completed their master's program.

Kudos to Cal for taking a stand.

The only reason Cal opposes the 5th year transfers is for 2 reasons!!!

Trey Lewis (New LOUISVILLE 5th year commit) 16.3 ppg

Damion Lee (New Louisville 5th year commit) 21.4 ppg

Cal knowingly brings in players who have no intention of getting a degree yet he turns around and pretends he wants grad transfers get theirs. What a hypocrite.

Yeah, I'm sure he's kicking himself for not landing a guy who put up 16 ppg for Cleveland State and a guy who chucked it up for an 11-19 Drexel squad.
