Baseball Attendance so far - SkullyMaroo - 03-25-2015 10:16 AM

Here is the current baseball attendance average. The number of games played at home are in parenthesis.

3,557 - Louisiana Lafayette (7)
1,478 - South Alabama (20)
1,431 - Texas State (12)
1,307 - Georgia Southern (19)
1,184 - Louisiana Monroe (13)
1,154 - Troy (16)
512 - Arkansas State (4)
441 - Appalachian State (6)
357 - Texas Arlington (8)*
223 - Arkansas Little Rock (8)
215 - Georgia State (18)

Sun Belt Average: 1,078

*Texas Arlington played a game against Texas in Globe Life Park. This game isn't counted as a true home game. However, if you did count it UTA's attendance for this game their average would go up to 775 and the SBC average would go up to 1,116.

I understand why ASU has only had 4 home games... But why have the Cajuns only played 7 home games?

RE: Baseball Attendance so far - NCeagle - 03-25-2015 10:24 AM

damn Ark State. how have you guys only had 4 home games?

RE: Baseball Attendance so far - Usajags - 03-25-2015 10:31 AM

Has the basketball celebration gone on long enough, can we start jumping in GaSt and lack of attendance again???

If we want to be seen as an true athletic conference, it needs to start with us and attendance to all of our sports need to rise.

Bad weather. Moved one SBC series to Mississippi to get it in. Other games cancelled or postponed.

Snow, Snow, Rain, and more rain. Coaches are pretty sure it's the reason we're 2-6 in league right now. Lack of games has left the bats without a chance to hit live pitching, and lack of home games has made it impossible for the team to practice until last week. We've lost 6 home games to weather so far.

You guys need one of those new fangled indoor facilities.

Cajuns have had 8 home games. Played a double header against Stoney Brook because of impending weather on the Sunday of the 3 game series. Counted as one game for admission purposes. Additionally, a midweek home game was rescheduled due to weather.

New attendance record for TXST last night. 2,653 in attendance for Texas game.

Doubt thats included in the figures above. We may have jumped USA.

Edit: Nevermind if their game last night isn't included either. Big crowd for the Alabama game.

"Dream On, Li'l Broomstick Cowboy". The Jags beat Alabama 3-0 in front of 3,047 paid attendance.

Ha. I do wish Bobcat Ballpark had a few more seats. We turned quite a few people away at the gates last night. Although I took great pleasure in watching entitled UT fans get upset about it. Literally heard one guy tell the lady at the ticket booth "well what are you going to do about it?? You have to do something!!!"

. . . And this is why we may not see the Horns in San Marcos again for a long, long time . . . .

Actually the numbers do reflect the games from last night. Without the Texas game TXST averages 1,307.

USA should get another bump next Tuesday as we host Mississippi State. I think we might have more there for that game than the Bama game last night. Alabama played a three game series at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile earlier this year that kept away a lot of Bama fans. They were the sparsest I've ever seen last night. The last time we hosted Mississippi State, in 2013, we had right at 3,400.

If they don't come to San Marcos I don't want to go to Austin either. I'd rather just not play them. I'm ok with 2 for 1 every year but not Austin only.

Sigh, agreed . . . It sucks that typically, we have to go to Austin when they show up on our schedule, it sucks that we haven't beaten them since 2005, but it also sucks that our ballpark will not accommodate more fans . . .
I realize that MOST of the time, we don't have the fans in need of such accommodation, but if we want to continue to bring UT and their ilk to SM, a larger facility would be nice . . . .
Hope we have good crowds this weekend, and that we take at least 2 of 3 from FailSouthern . . . .

RE: Baseball Attendance so far - _x_ - 03-25-2015 01:37 PM

The baseball facilities need some work. Mainly on-site locker rooms, offices, etc. Expansion is probably not even a discussion point right now though.

I hope this 2 for 1 agreement stays in place. I really think the UT folks enjoy the game in San Marcos.
They don't get to travel often to such a close opponent.
I think they like the relative intimacy compared to their minor league-ish park.
We are apparently an easy road W for them.

And that last thing you state, I HATE the MOST . . .

Ours are about to open up. Softball's just did. Surprised y'all don't have one yet. Texas State always seems a step ahead of us in the facilities arms race.
